6 No. 342, 4.9.2009 中大划艇 八連冠 Rowing Team Champions for Eighth Year in a Row 教職員 乒乓球賽奪魁 Staff Triumph in Inter-University Table-Tennis Competition 由 香港理工大學職員會所主辦的「2009理大職員會所盃」——大學教職員乒乓球 邀請賽於6月假理工大學邵逸夫體育館舉行,中大教職員乒乓球隊在八支參賽 隊伍中脫穎而出,勇奪錦標,完成三連冠美夢。 中大隊伍於男子組乒乓球團體賽先後擊敗香港大學及香港教育學院,晉身決賽,最後 憑着高昂士氣、穩定發揮及團隊精神,力壓香港浸會大學,勇奪冠軍。 T he CUHK staff table-tennis team won the 2009 PolyU Staff Club Cup for the third successive year at the Inter-University Staff Table Tennis Invitational Championships organized by the Polytechnic University Staff Club in June at HK PolyU. The CUHK men’s team entered the finals after beating the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Institute of Education teams. With high morale and team spirit, the CUHK team defeated the Hong Kong Baptist University team to win the championship. Prof. Lee Shui-shan, Professor of Infectious Diseases, has • been appointed as a consultant of the People’s Government of Liuzhou Municipality from April 2009 to April 2011. He has also been reappointed by the Medical Council of Hong Kong as a member of the Council's Health Committee for one year from 2 April 2009. Prof. Joseph Bosco, associate professor in the Department of • Anthropology, has been reappointed by the Hospital Authority Board as a member of the Hospital Governing Committee of Rehabaid Centre for two years from 1 April 2009. Mr. Kwok Wai-leung Anthony, general manager of the CUHK • Jockey Club Centre for Osteoporosis Care and Control, has been admitted as a serving brother in the Order of St. John from 9 April 2009. Prof. Sian Griffiths, Professor of Public Health, has been • appointed as an honorary consultant in hospitals under the New Territories East Cluster of the Hospital Authority for one year from 1 May 2009 and a member of the Working Group on Injuries and Alcohol Misuse of the Department of Health for two years from 1 June 2009. She has also been appointed as a deputy co-chair of the Grant Review Board, the scientific advisor to the Research Council, and a member of the Research Council for the Research Fund for the Control of Infectious Diseases and the Health and Health Services Research Fund of the Food and Health Bureau for two years from 1 October 2009. Prof. Chiu Siu-wai, associate professor in the Department of • Biology, has been appointed by the Secretary for Food and Health as a member of the Advisory Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries for two years from 1 June 2009. Mrs. Chow Chan Man-yuen Grace, director of admissions and • financial aid, has been appointed by the Secretary for Education as the institutional representative of CUHK in the Joint Committee on Student Finance for one year from 1 June 2009. Prof. Lee Chi-kin John, dean of education, has been reappointed • by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a member of the Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications for two years from 1 June 2009. He has also been reappointed by the Deputy Secretary for Security as a member of the Management Committees of the Police Children’s Education Trust and the Police Education and Welfare Trust for three years from 1 July 2009. Prof. Yu Tak-sun Ignatius, professor in the Department of • Community and Family Medicine, has been appointed by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare as a member of the Occupational Deafness Medical Committee for three years from 1 June 2009. Prof. Leung Kwok-sui, Professor of Orthopaedics and • Traumatology, has been reappointed as a member of the Criminal and Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation Boards for two years from 19 June 2009. Prof. Liu Pak-wai, Professor of Economics, has been appointed • by the Chief Secretary for Administration as a member of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council for two years from 1 July 2009. He has also been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a non-official member of the Commission on Strategic Development for three years from 1 July 2009. Prof. Tchou Ming-kong Larry, adjunct associate professor in the • School of Hotel and Tourism Management, has been appointed by the Secretary for Education as a member of the Vocational Training Council for two years from 1 July 2009. Prof. Leung Kwok-sui, Professor of Orthopaedics and • Traumatology, has been awarded the Chief Executive's Commendation for Community Service. Prof. Li Kam-tao Philip, head of the Division of Nephrology • of the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, has been awarded the Chief Executive's Commendation for Community Service. Prof. Wong Kwok-pun Laurence, Professor of Translation, • has been awarded the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service. Prof. Wong Wing-hung, adjunct professor in the Department • of Statistics, has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences of USA this year. The team bagged the top prizes of the women’s overall, men’s overall, and the team overall, becoming the champion for the eighth year in a row. 「
