In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Department of Translation and the 10th anniversary of the MA Programme in Computer-aided Translation, two conferences, namely, ‘Translation between Chinese and English: Theory and Practice’ and ‘New Trends in Translation Technology,’ were held on 4 and 5 May at CUHK. Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; and Prof. Leung Yuen-sang, dean, Faculty of Arts, officiated at the opening ceremony. Scholars from the US, Taiwan and China took this opportunity to exchange views, and software developers from the UK, France, Switzerland and Singapore also joined the discussions. On 4 May, over 250 guests took part in the department’s 40th anniversary gala dinner held at the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin, including Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof. Hau Kit-tai and Prof. Jack C.Y. Cheng, special guests, teachers, alumni and students.
