Not a small number of CUHK members are badminton buffs, and they sometimes venture out of campus to carry out sporting diplomatic missions. On 20–21 December 2012, a team comprising teaching and administrative staff of CUHK went to Taipei, Taiwan to have friendly badminton matches with representatives from the Academia Sinica and the National Taiwan University.

The CUHK team of 10 was led by then Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry N.C. Wong and cheered on by a few family members. Their counterparts at Academia Sinica and the National Taiwan University proved to be tough opponents, but their hosts also showed their hospitable side and treated the visitors to post-match delicacies. Our team returned home with a relish and is already looking forward to a re-match.
