Wu Weishan on the Cultural Perspective of His Sculptures

Prof. Wu Weishan, president of the China Sculpture Academy, Chinese National Academy of Arts, was invited as a guest speaker for the Lecture Series in Arts and Humanities co-organized by CUHK and Shun Hing Group. Professor Wu hosted a lecture entitled 'A Cultural Perspective of My Sculpture' on 2 October on CUHK campus. The lecture attracted an audience of about 200, including CUHK staff and students, members from academic and fine art circles, as well as members of the public.

In the lecture, Professor Wu explained he expressed his cultural view through his four sculptures: 'The Sleeping Child', 'Lao Tsu', 'Confucius' and 'The Fleeing from Calamity Group'. Having been a sculptor for over 20 years, he has created over 400 pieces on subjects ranging from ordinary people to historical and cultural notables. His works have been exhibited in more than 20 countries around the world.
