服務香港 放眼世界 Service to Hong Kong and the Wor ld 社會服務 過去一年，不少中大成員為眾多海內外組織和學術機構提供專 業知識及意見，他們或出任委員會主席/委員，或協助編輯 學術期刊，或擔任顧問工作。 傑出貢獻及成就 中大成員對各地社會所作之貢獻，備受表揚，並獲多項獎譽。 音樂系陳偉光敎授獲選為一九九八年度十大傑出青年，以表揚 他在音樂藝術的卓越成就及貢獻。副校長金耀基敎授於一九 九八年十一月獲香港科技大學頒授榮譽文學博士學位。副校長 楊綱凱敎授獲委任為研究資助局主席及大學敎育資助委員會委 員。副校長廖柏偉敎授則於一九九九年七月獲特區政府頒授 銀紫荊星章，另獲委出任嶺南學院校董會成員。 逸夫書院院長楊汝萬敎授於一九九八年六月獲授國際歐亞科學 院院士。大學校董會主席利漢釗博士於一九九八年十一月當 選為國際證券交易所聯會主席。校長李國章敎授於一九九九年 三月獲英國赫爾大學頒授榮譽理學博士學位。 推動文化藝術 中文大學及其成員書院經常主辦傑出敎授或傑出學人訪問計劃， 邀請世界知名學者蒞校，主持公開講座及研討會，促進學術交 流。過去一年在中大發表演説的著名專家學者有歷史學家徐中 c o m m u n i t y s e r v i c e In 1998-99, University faculty and staff lent their expertise to many local and international organizations, serving these bodies in various capacities — as chairpersons, vice-presidents, committee members, editorial board members, advisers, and consultants. o u t s t a n d i n g c o n t r i b u t i o n s a n d a c h i e v e m e n t s Their dedicated service and significant contributions to the betterment of the local and international community won them accolade s both in Hong Kong and overseas. Locally, Prof. Victor Chan Wai-kwong of the Department of Music was elected one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons in 1998 in recognition of his contribution to the arts and music. Prof. Ambrose Y.C. King, pro-vice- chancellor, was awarded the degree of Docto r of Letters, honoris causa, by The Hong Kong Universit y of Science and Technology in November 1998. Prof. Kenneth Young, pro-vice-chancellor, was appointed chairman of the Research Grants Council and member of the University Grants Committee. Prof. Liu Pak-wai, pro-vice-chancellor, was awarded the Silve r Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR government in July 1999 and appointed council member of Lingnan College. Internationally, Prof. Yeung Yue-man, head of Shaw College, was appointed a member of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences in June 1998.
