學生及校友 74 STUDENT S AND ALUMN I 校友 本校自成立以來,共培育了六萬五千多名畢業生,現今遍布 各行各業,為社會作出貢獻。不少中大校友更因其傑出成就或 卓越服務,於今年獲授殊榮或獲政府特別任命。 多年來不少校友以其專業知識和實務經驗協助母校發展,他 們除參與校內各類諮詢委員會工作外,也有出任大學和書 院校董,並應邀主持專題講座或參與各類學長計劃,與學弟 學妹分享他們的人生經驗和工作心得。 此外,中大校友亦經常捐款資助大學的發展項目。由全體畢 業生組成的法定組織「中大評議會」,特於今年籌款購置 價值三百多萬元的「超音波心電圖儀器」,贈與內科及藥物 治療學系心臟科,支持母校醫療敎學及研究發展,餘額則全 部撥捐香港公益金。 中大校友亦十分關注本港和內地的社會及敎育事務。中大 評議會今年曾先後就兩份由敎育統籌委員會發表的敎育改革 諮詢文件,提交意見書。香港中文大學校友會聯會則繼續 透過其敎育基金會向校友集資,為內地貧困地區的小學生提 供書簿及學費資助。敎育基金會亦於本年度籌得足夠款項,在 本港開辦另一所中學,和在內地興建兩所小學。截至二零零零 年七月,聯會在本港共開辦幼稚園及小學各一所、中學兩所, 在內地則共捐建八所小學,為敎育下一代作出重大承擔。 Alumni T he graduation of the year 2000 class brought the total n umb er of the University's a l umni to over 65,000. T h e y w o r k i n different professions and trades, and have been ma k i ng i mp o r t a nt contributions to H o n g K o n g as a whole. D u r i ng the year under review, ma ny of t h em w o n prestigious awards i n recognition of their outstanding achievements and distinguished services. Others were appointed to i mp o r t a nt public posts. M a n y of t h em continued t o contribute their professional expertise to the development of their alma mater t h r o u gh participation i n the Un i v e r s i ty Council, the f o ur College Boards of Trustees, and various advisor y committees. Other s shared their skills and life experiences w i t h students of the Un i v e r s i ty t h r o u gh talks, seminars, and student-mentor programmes. F r o m t i me to time, donations were received f r o m alumni i n support of scholarship schemes, research projects, and large-scale development initiatives. The Co n v o c a t i on of the Un i v e r s i ty (a statutory b o dy w i t h all graduates of the Un i v e r s i ty as its members), for example, mo u n t ed a fund-raising campaign last year for the acquisition of a H K $ 3 - m i l l i o n - w o r th Cardiac Echocardiography machine f or the Cardiology D i v i s i on of the De p a r t me nt of Medicine and Therapeutics. A l l surplus was donated to the C o mm u n i ty Chest of H o n g K o n g. A l u m n i associations also played an active role i n social and educational affairs i n H o n g K o n g and o n the mainland. O p i n i o n papers were released b y the U n i v e r s i ty Convocation i n response to t w o i mp o r t a nt consultative documents published by the Education Comm i s s i on on Education R e f o rm Proposals w i t h i n the year. T he Federation of A l u m n i Associations of C U H K , t h r o u gh its Education Foundation, solicited donations f r om its members t o b uy books and sponsor t u i t i on fees for school children i n poverty-stricken areas i n mainland China. Funds were also raised t o establish a n ew secondary school i n H o n g K o n g, and t w o more p r i ma ry schools i n mainland China.
