Following preliminary campus master planning carried out by the Department of Architecture, the University formally set up a Working Group on Campus Master Planning to oversee the development of conceptuals into a framework for discussion and consultation during 2002-3. Campus-wide consultations would be organized through various means to encourage staff and student participation in the process, and periodic reviews would be held to ensure that master planning is consonant with the University's strategic advancement. Major Capital Programmes The outcome of the Government's 2002 Capital Works Resource Allocation Exercise (RAE) was released in February 2003. In view of the government's stringent financial situation, the University voluntarily withdrew two capital projects already accorded approval-in-principle status, namely the extension to the University Administration Building and extension facilities for the Faculty of Education. In exchange, the University secured the UGC's support of the proposed Teaching Complex on Western Campus (Redevelopment of Li Dak Sum Building) for the 2003 RAE. Works for the footbridge connection from Daisy Li Hall to Grace Tien Hall on the campus of New Asia College were completed on schedule in late August 2002. Progress of a new hostel on United campus — Chan Chun Ha Hostel — was steady and in line with the latest master programme.
