Protection of Natural Watercourses The Chung Chi Stream and Lake Ad Excellentiam at the Chung Chi College campus are famous for their ecological value because they are habitats for certain aquatic animals and plants. Since the water flowing through the Chung Chi Stream comes from Chek Lai Ping and the storm drains on Tai Po Road, the water quality is greatly affected by its upstream sources. In 2009, the University Safety and Environment Office implemented a comprehensive water monitoring plan to monitor the water quality of the Chung Chi Stream and Lake Ad Excellentiam, and the discharge of the construction sites along the catchment. In response to Chung Chi College’s decision to build its new chapel on the stream next to the Theology Building, the University hired an external consultant in 2009 to conduct a study, which covered both dry and wet seasons, upstream, downstream, and areas adjacent to the construction site, so as to assess the potential impacts associated with the works. Construction of University Library Extension
