T h e Senate, as specified in the Un i v e r s i t y Ordinance, is p r i ma r i ly concerned w i t h programmes of instruction, education, research; conducting of examination ; the conferment of degrees other than degrees honoris causa; and the award of diplomas, certificates and other academi c distinctions of the Un i v e r s i t y. Decisions of the Senate are subject to the review of the Un i v e r s i t y Council. T h e vice-chancellor is the Ch a i rman of the Senate. Memb e rs of the Senate include: Presidents of the three Fo u n d a t i on Colleges ; one Vice-President f r om eac h of the Colleges ; the Professors; the Directors of Un i v e r s i ty Studies who are not Professors; six member s who shall be Readers, Senior Lecturers or Recognized Lecturers but not Directors of Un i v e r s i ty Studies and who shall be elected t wo f r om each College by th e Readers, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers w i t h in such College ; and the L i b r a r i a n. Lee is th e V i c e - Ch a i r man of the University Council. T h e H o n. P. C. Wo o is a memb er of the Co u n c il and M r . Q. W . Le e is the Un i v e r s i ty Treasurer and Ch a i rman of the Finance Committee. T h e H o n. Szeto Wa i is the author of the Un i v e r s i t y development plan. T h e Campus Planning Comm i t t e e, an advisory board to the Vice-Chancellor and Un i v e r s i ty Council, w i ll deal w i t h problems connected w i t h the overall p l a n n i n g of the Un i v e r s i ty site i n c l u d i ng costs of roads an d other services. I t w i l l also examine b u i l d i ng proposals of the three 3
