Ou T s u i n - c h e n, A c t i ng President of N ew Asia College, has accepted an invitation of the Un i v e r s i ty of Hawaii to take part in the Advanced Scholars Resident Research Programme of the East-West Centre, for a duration of five months. D r . and M r s. Ou left for Hawa ii on September 24. • M i s s L ak K u n g Me i, Assistant Lecturer in Mathematics at N ew Asi a College, was awarded a Wo r l d University Service Scholarship to pursue an M . A . degree at the Un i v e r s i ty of California. Miss L ak left for the U n i t ed States on August 7. • M r . H u a n g Yang Chih, an assistant of the N ew Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies and Research, also obtained a W U S scholarship, and left on Au g u st 7 to study at the Un i v e r s i ty o f Indiana. • M r . George F. S. L i n g, Assistant Dean of Students, left for England via th e Un i t ed States, on September 8 to study for a P h . D . at Mansfield College of Ox f o rd University. • D r . Pi-kai T c h a n g, Senior Lecturer in Economics and Head of the De p a r t me nt of Economics at N ew Asia College has accepted an invitation to lecture at M a r b u rg University, Germany, for a duration of six months. D r . T c h a ng left H o n g K o n g on July 7. D u r i n g his stay he w i ll visit various universities and academic institutes in Ge rma n y. He is expected to return in February 1965. • D r . T . S. Ma, Professo r of Chemistry at the C i ty Un i v e r s i ty of N ew Yo r k, arrived on July 31 for a t wo- mo n th stay to advise the Vice-Chancellor on the planning of the future Science Building. D u r i ng his stay, be conferred w i t h M r . Szeto Wai, University architect, and had several meetings w i th College staff and local industrialists. D r . M a is well acquainted w i th H o ng K o n g and had been here in 1961 to give a series of lectures at Ch u ng Chi College. D r . M a completed his report to the Vice-Chancellor and left H o ng K o n g on September 30. D r . Ma 's t r ip to H o ng K o n g was financed by the U.S. State Department. • On July 31 , Dr. Jennie Huie, lecturer and deputy head of the De p a r t me nt of English Language and Literature at U n i t ed College, left for a f o u r - mo n t h tour of American universities and colleges at th e invitation of the U . S. State Department. D u r i n g her t r ip D r . Hu ie w i ll examine various aspects of American literature and methods of teaching English as a second language. • D r . Chan Nai Ng, a newly-appointed lecturer i n Mathematics at the Un i t ed College, arrived on August 4 f r om the Un i t ed K i n g d om to assume his post. D r . Chan was previously a lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Newc a s t l e - u p o n - T y ne i n Britain. A U n i t ed College's ne w lecturer i n Chemistry, D r . Grace P. Y. Chiu , arrive d in H o n g K o n g on August 8 f r om America to tak e up her appointment. Ha v i ng received her P h . D. degree in 1962 f r om the University of Minnesota, D r . Ch iu was engaged as a research associate at the University of Indiana prior to her appointment at Un i t ed College. • M r . L e u ng M a n Chiu, a Demonstrator in Physics at Un i t ed College, left in late August for the Louisiana State University in America for studie s leading to a Master of Science's degree, on being awarded a Wo r l d University Service Staff T r a i n i ng Fellowship.
