THE N I N TH I NAUGURAL ADDRESS Prof. Chou Kai-ren of Economics w i ll give his inaugural address at the City Ha ll Theater on May 14 at 5:30 p.m. T he topic of his lecture w i ll be: “Recent Trends in Wo r l d T r a d e ". Prof. Chou, who arrived in H o ng K o n g in December w i t h his family, has also been appointed Director of the Agricultural Research Project under the Institute of Social Studies and the Humanities to study and make a projection of Ho ng Kong's demand and supply for agricultural products in the next fifteen years. GOWNS, CAPS AND HOODS T h e Chancellor's official gown is a black robe of silk taffeta w i t h gold trimmings of 5 1/2" f r om yoke tapering down to 2 1/2" in front. Sleeves w i th two gold bands of 3 1/2" and 1" respectively are turned up to show purple lining. T h e cap is black w i th one gold band and gold tassel. T he Vice-Chancellor's official gown is a black robe of silk taffeta w i th gold trimmings of 5 1/2" f r om yoke tapering down to 1" in front. Sleeves w i th one gold band of 1” are turned up to show purple lining. T he cap is black and edged gold w i th gold tassel. T he Pro-Vice-Chancellor's official gown is a black robe of silk taffeta w i th gold t r i mm i ng of 1” and purple trimmings of 3 ". T he cap is black and edged gold w i t h black tassel. T he Treasurer's official gown is a grey robe edged gold w i th a Ma n d a r in collar. T he cap is black w i t h black tassel. T he Registrar's official gown is a grey robe w i t h purple braids and a Ma n d a r in collar. T he cap is black w i th black tassel. T he Chairman of the Convocation wears a mauve robe edged purple w i th a Ma n d a r in collar. T he cap is black w i th black tassel. T he academic gown of a L L . D . Degree holder is a red wollen robe w i th gold t r i mm i ngs on the sleeves and f r om the yoke down in front and w i th a Ma n d a r in collar. T he cap is black in a “ p o r k - p i e" style. T he Ho od is edged gold. T h e academic gown of a Bachelor Degree holder is black w i t h black velvet t r i mm i ngs on the front of the robe and the sleeves, and a Ma n d a r in collar. T h e cap is black w i th black tassel. T h e hood is black on both sides and has a broad edge in faculty colour. T h e Faculty colours are: Arts: pale yellow Science: mauve Economics: grey Social Science: sage green COLLEGE REGISTRARS Mr. Tse Chiu-kit, Chung Chi College M r . Tse Chiu-kit had been associated with Lingnan University for more than ten years before he took up the post of Registrar of Chung Chi College in 1951. D u r i ng his years in Lingnan, he had been its Business Manager (1938-42), Comptroller (1942-48), Acting Dean of Students (1943-46), Ac t i ng Principal of Lingnan M i d d le School (1947-48), and Lecturer in History & Political Science (1943-48). He is a graduate of Oberlin College (B.A. — 1923) and Teachers’ College, Columbia University ( M . A. —- 1924). Mr. Wang Chi, New Asia College, M r . Wa ng graduated f r om the law school of Soochow University, Shanghai, in 1939 and practised in Shanghai for many years while lecturing at Aurora University. 4
