Yang wa s co-recipient o f th e physics award of 195 7 w i th D r . Le e Tsung-dao o f Co l umb ia University. T h e discoveries o f th e t w o y o u ng Chinese physicists proved th e invalidity o f th e principle o f th e conservation o f parity, a n accepted an d universal la w of physics, an d created a spirit o f doubt an d skepticism in th e scientific wo r ld concerning th e universality o f all th e great conservation laws. Professor Ya ng has since wo n recognition an d honours f r om al l over the wo r l d. D r . Yang visited th e three Foundation Colleges o f the University an d staff members ha d a n o p p o r t u n i ty to meet h i m an d hold discussions w i th h i m . On Wednesday afternoon, December 30 , 1964 , at the invitation o f th e Chinese University, h e gave a public lecture o n “ W h a t i s M o d e rn H i g h Energy Physics" i n th e Concert Ha ll o f th e City Hall. T h e Hall, w i th it s seating accommodation fo r 1400 , wa s packed t o capacity long before th e start o f th e lecture. Thousands ha d t o be t u r n ed away.
