M r . Leo Hua-shen, United College. M r. Leo graduated from the Boone L ib ra ry School in 1927 and obtained his B .A . degree from H ua Chung U n iv e rsity . He was then appointed as lib ra ria n at several in s titu tio n s , besides w h ich he taught L ib ra ry Science at various schools, one o f w h ich was his alma mater — the Boone L ib ra ry School. D u rin g these early years M r. Leo served as lib ra ria n at the Nankai U n iv e rs ity , at the M in is try o f Railways and at the N a tion a l P eiping N o rm a l U n ive rs ity. F rom 1937 to 1939, M r. Leo was in Germ any as an Exchange L ib ra ria n at the Deutsche Bucherei in L e ip z ig and later as the V is itin g L ib ra ria n at the Preussische S taatsbibliothek in B erlin. H is stay in G erm any afforded h im the o p p o rtu n ity to secure a good w o rkin g know ledge o f the German language. D u rin g the war, M r. Leo returned to China and jo in e d the C entral L ib ra ry w h ich was then in C h un g king. He was attached con curre ntly to the Boone L ib ra ry School and the Soochow Social Science College as p a rt-tim e Professor o f L ib ra ry Science. A fte r the war, M r. Leo was appointed by the M in is try o f Education as Executive Secretary and a M em b e r o f the N a tion a l Sian L ib ra ry P lanning Comm ission. H is w ork ended tw o years later, and from 1948 to 1962 his tim e was d ivide d between L in g n a n U n iv e rs ity and the N a tion a l Sun Yat-sen U n ive rs ity, where he served as L ib ra ria n and Assistant U n ive rs ity L ib ra ria n respectively. In 1962 M r. Leo came to H o ng K on g and in the fo llow in g year jo in e d the U n ite d College as L ib ra ria n . Early in 1964, M r. Leo became a member o f the A merican L ib ra ry Association. COLLEGE DEANS OF STUDENTS M r . Hu be rt P.C . Cheng, United College. M r. H u b e rt P.C. Cheng worked fo r many years in the railway service in China. He was born in 1904, and is m arried w ith tw o sons and a daughter. He obtained a B .A . degree from F ra n k lin College, Indiana, U .S .A ., in 1926. F rom 1926 to 1936, M r. Cheng was a lecturer at N a tion a l C h i-nan U n iv e rsity , Shanghai and also at the N a tion a l C h iao -tung U n ive rs ity. F rom 1953 to 1957, M r. Cheng was Dean o f M en and le ctu re r at C hung C h i College. F rom 1957 to 1963, M r. Cheng was the Executive D ire c to r o f the M encius E ducational Foundation, H o n g K on g . Before jo in in g the U n ite d College in 1963, M r. Cheng visited the U n ite d States to study various aspects o f student counselling services, under the sponsorship o f the Asia Foundation. H is pu blications include a book, "P ra ctical Railway O peration in C h in a ", and articles in Chinese con cerned w ith railway problem s and the status o f post- secondary college students in H o n g Kong. M r . Tao Chen -yu, N e w Asia College. Born in 1912, M r. Tao m ajored in H is to ry at the N a tion a l T s in g Hua U n iv e rs ity and later studied at the graduate school o f the T o k yo Im p e ria l U n ive rsity. M r. T ao had taught as Professor o f H is to ry at the N a tion a l W u -ha n U n iv e rs ity and N a tion a l T aiw an U n iv e rs ity . He was also a Research Fellow o f the Academ ia Sinica. 5
