During the W ar he worked as a member of the Air Raid Precautions i n Hong Kong. Subsequently h e went back to the interior of China and worked for the Sino-British Cultural Association in Chungking . A t the same time he also managed the Evening Language School of the Sino-Burman Cultural Association. H e held a number of other public offices during the W a r years. After the W ar he returned to Hong Kong and was in private business and teaching before joining the Hong Kong Government in 1952. Mr. Yao has for many years been on the General Committee of the Sino-British Clu b of Hong Kong and a member of the Contemporary China Research Seminar conducted by the Departmen t of Economics, University of Hong Kong. His Chinese translation of J.E. Hales' British Education was published in 1946. NE W STAF F O F SCHOO L O F EDUCATIO N Mr. Chan Kai Sun, Assistant Lecturer Mr. Chan graduated from National Sun Yat-sen University in 1937 with a B.Ed, degree in Chinese Language Teaching and Educational Administration. H e was a tutor at his alma mater and later appointed Lecturer and Supervisor i n the Rural Education Experimental District in Poo n Yu, established by the University. During World W a r II,Mr. Chan worked in Indo- China,where he was Headmaste r of Overseas Middle School in Hanoi and Tourane for many years. After his return to Hong Kong in 1948 he became the Prefect of Studies in Heung Kong Middle School and a Lecturer of Heung Kong College. H e joined the Education Department i n 1954 and taught a t Queen Elizabeth School, Grantham Trainin g College (1960), and Sir Robert Black Training College (1961- 65). H e also served as part-time Lecturer in Educational Psychology of the Inservice Teachers' Training Courses. Aside from his teaching career, Mr. Chan has been associated with the educational programm e o f the Rediffusion Co. for more than six years. His published works include “The Common Errors in Chinese Characters”, ''Correction Methods of Composition”, and some discussion materials o n Chinese Literature and History for Secondar y Schools. Mr. Kan Kwok-chuen, Assistant Lecturer. Mr. Kan Kwok-chuen graduated from Lingnan University, Canton, in 1938, with a B.A. degree (History) In 1941, he was a Hong Kong Government scholar in the Diploma in Education course at University of Hong Kong until December, when the Colony was occupied. After the war, he resumed his studies in 1954 and received his Diploma in Education (1955 with Credit in Theory) an d the degree of M.A. (1960- Education) from the same University. Besides teaching, Mr. Kan had a varied experience in School Administration as Dean of W a h Ying College, Kukong, (1942-1944), Principal o f Christian Union College, Linhsien (1944-46), Principal o f Lim Pak Middle School, Hong Kong (1946-55), and Headmaster of Jockey Club Government School (1958-61). In 1961, Mr. Kan wa s transferred to Grantham Training College as a Lecturer in Education and Social Studies, and concurrently the Supervisor of the In- service Course of Training for Teachers (Kowloon). In September 1963, Mr. Ka n was sent to England by the Government on a course of training college administration, and was attached as a Visiting Lecturer for two terms first t o the Borough Road College, Middlesex, and then to the King Alfred's College, Winchester. In September 1965, Mr . Kan was appointed Assistant Lectureship at the School of Education. 11
