SUMMER LECTURES OF THE ECONOMIC RESEARCH CENTRE Repeating similar performances last s umme r, the E c o n om ic Research Centre of the Un i v e r s i ty w i ll sponsor a series of p u b l ic lectures by visiting economists f r o m foreign universities and international organizations, who are c om i ng t o H o n g K o n g for their s ummer holidays this year. T e n t a t i ve plans are being made for these p u b l ic lectures to he given, either at the a u d i t o r i ums of the Constituent Colleges or in the lecture-rooms of the C i t y Ha l l. T h e first speaker w i ll be Professor S h u n - H s in C h ou f r om the Un i v e r s i ty of Pittsburgh, who is we l l - k n own for his research on the theory of inflation. H e w i l l lecture on inflation and fiscal policy, at the a u d i t o r i um of N e w Asia College on T h u r s d a y, 9th June, at 11:00 a.m. D r . T . C . Chang, a p r om i n e nt expert on trade analysis n ow in charge of p r o g r amm i ng and projections at the U n i t ed Nations Headquarters in N e w Y o r k, w i l l come to H o n g K o n g i n June or July. A seminar w i l l be arranged for h i m to meet fellow economists in H o n g K o n g, probably on a topic w i t h in the field of l o n g - t e rm projections of w o r ld economy . T h e next visitor is D r . Chungtse Shih, f o r me r ly D i r e c t or of the Comme r c i al Policy T r a i n i ng P r o g r amme of G A T T in Geneva and n ow D i r e c t or of the G A T T E c o n om ic De v e l o pme nt D i v i s i o n. He w i l l speak on the role of G A T T in w o r l d trade p r omo t i o n, w i t h particular emphasis on th e expansion of trade of the developing countries and the participation of East Eu r o p e an countries in G A T T . D r . A n t h o ny T a n g, Professor of Economics at Va n d e r b i lt Un i v e r s i ty in Tennessee, U . S . A. and an agricultural economist of international standing, w i l l be invited to lecture on " A g r i c u l t u re in E c o n om ic D e v e l o pme n t ”’ a question very, pertinent to most Asian countries. A m o n g the latest to arrive this s ummer w i ll be D r . S.C. Yang, who is also External Ex am i n er to the Department of Economics of this Un i v e r s i t y. D r . Y a ng is an expert on w o r ld trade and finance, and is n ow a professor in the E c o n om ic De v e l o pme nt I n s t i t u te of the W o r l d Bank in Wa s h i n g t o n. He w i l l conduct a seminar on problems of economic development. Places and date s of the lectures other than that by Professor Ch ou w i l l be announced later. Lectures by other visiting economists w i l l be announced f r om t i me to time. CHUNG CHI PRESIDENT ON TOUR D r . C . T . Y u n g, President of C h u ng C h i College, is n ow on a t r ip to Lebanon, th e U n i t ed K i n g d om and the U n i t ed States. He represents the Un i v e r s i ty and his College on the occasion of the centennial celebrations of the Ame r i c an Un i v e r s i ty at Beirut, He has also been i n v i t ed by the B r i t i sh Co u n c il to visit the new institutions and universities interested in Chinese studies in the U n i t ed K i n g d o m. A f t er his visit to the U n i t ed K i n g d o m, D r . Y u n g w i l l f ly to the U n i t ed States to attend the Presidents Conference of the U n i t ed Board for Christian H i g h er Education in Asia (Jun 14-19 at Berea College, K e n t u c k y) and the Quadrennial Convocation of Christian Colleges (June 19-23 at E a r l h am College , Indiana). Wh i le in America, he w i l l visit the C h u ng Chi a l umni in various parts of the c o u n t r y, D r . Y u n g, accompanied by M r s . SOCIAL WORK SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES T h e f o l l ow i ng social wo rk scholarships/bursaries are available in the academic year 1966/67 to third-year and fourth-year Social Wo r k students in the Un i v e r s i t y: Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank Social Work Scholarships A m a x i m um of 5 scholarships, to the value of $5,000 each per annum. Hong Kong Government Social Work Bursaries A n umb er of Go v e r nme nt Bursaries, to the value of $3,200 ( ma x i mum) each per annum, American Women's Association Social Work Scholarships A m a x i m um of 3 scholarships, to th e value of $1,000 each per annum.
