Mr. Chih-tai C h u , Staff Tutor, Department of Extramural Studies 生 先 泰 志 朱 Mr . C.T. Chu Mr . Chih-tai Chu obtained his B.A. from National Fu-Tan University in 1942 and his M . A . from the University of Michigan in 1948. Before joining this University in 1967 M r . Chu had been Professor of Economics and Business Administration at St. John's University, Shanghai University, Soochow University, Great China University, National Fu-Tan University, Kuang- Hwa University, and Hong Kong Baptist College. M r . Chu's publications include An Introduction to Literature, A Study of Yuan Drama, A Study of Poetry, a nd Chinese Translation of Alfred Marshall's Principles of Economics. COMINGS AND GOINGS • The Hon. Sir Hugh Norman-Walker, Colonial Secretary of Hong Kong, visited Chung Chi College and the Central Office of the University on 10th July. Other visitors to the University during the past two months included Sir William Hayter, Warden of New College, Oxford; Prof. Masaaki Nakada, Associate Professor of Tropical Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Utsunomiya University, Japan; and M r . Frederick Sheffield, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Foundation, and Mrs. Sheffield. • M r. Din-yi Lee, Senior Lecturer in History, United College, left in June for Japan to do research work for about two months on a Harvard-Yenching Institute grant. • Mr. Jonathan Q. Mills and Mr. Ralph Penner, "Yale Bachelors" selected and sent by the Yale-in- China Association to teach English at New Asia College for the academic year 1969-70, assumed duty at the College on 1st July. They came to replace Messrs. David A. Wilson and James G. Manor, who had left Hong Kong in June. • M r. C.C. Hu, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Sociology, United College, attended the 2nd International Sinological Conference held at the China Academy in Taiwan f r om 3rd to 14th July. • Prof. David H. L i, Professor of Business Administratio and Director of the Lingnan Institute of Business Administration of this University, attended a meeting on university business management education on 10th and 11th July under the sponsorship of the Ford Foundation in Bangkok. • M r. Su Lin-kuan, Lecturer and Head of the Physics Departmen t of New Asia College, left for the United States on 10th July on long leave. He w i ll serve as Visiting Professor at the University of California, San Diego, during the academic year 1969-70. • Prof. Eric Ax i l r od arrived on 14th July with Mrs. Ax i l r o d to assume duty as Professor of Economics at Chung Chi College and Director of the University Economic Research Centre. • Dr. Francis Hutchins, Representative of Yale- in-China, is on leave away from Hong Kong from 18th July to 6th September, 1969. Mr. Timothy Light is Acting Representative during his absence. • M r. Pan Chung-kwei, Dean of the Faculty of Arts of New Asia College, left Hong Kong on 25th July to visit American and European universities. I n mid-September he will attend the X X I International Conference on Chinese Studies to be held in Italy. • Visitors to United College during the month of July included Dr. Lynne L. Merritt, J r . , V i c e- President and Dean of Research and Advanced Studies of Indiana University, and M r . John E. Early, a Trustee of that University. • Rev. Fr . John Gannon, S.J ., Lecturer in English Language and Literature, United College, left for the United Kingdom on 1st August on long — 1 1 —
