Wu. • Chung Chi College celebrated the 19th Anniversary of its Founder's Day from 30th October to 1st November. The major programmes included round-the-campus race, photo display and student variety concert held at the City Hall, • The Rt. Hon. Lo rd Fulton of Falmer, overseas Council Member of the University, delivered an address at the College Assembly of Chung Chi College on 16th October. • Mr. T.C. Cheng, President of United College, was appointed by His Excellency the Governor to be a Member of the New Territories Advisory Committee for Recreational Development and Nature Conservation for three years from August 1970. President Cheng also accepted an invitation from the Director of Education to be the Chairman of the Commonwealth Scholarships Selection Committee with effect from August 1970. • Prof. S.S. Hsueh, Professor of Government and Public Administration assigned to United College, chaired a workshop on Administrative Implications of Rapid Population Growth in Asia held from 9th to 11th October in Hong Kong. The workshop was attended by some 20 scholars and administrators from 17 countries. • At the 123rd Monthly Meeting of New Asia College on 16th October, Mr. J.P. Miller, Director of the Research Institute of Social Science of Yale University, spoke on “ A Challenge to the Capitalist World". • A t the invitation of the Chinese Literature Department of New Asia College, Prof. Chou Fa-kao gave a talk on "Textual Criticism in the Light of Linguistic Methods" on 29th October. • A Biology Seminar, sponsored by the Department of Biology, Chung Chi College, was hel d on 29th October. Dr. D. Chan of the Department of Zoology, University of Hong Kong, was invited to speak on “Some Aspects of Adaptation of Telcost Fishes to Environmental Changes". • New Asia College announced the appointment of Department Advisers to students on 1st October. There are altogether 13 teaching departments and 53 Advisers for the academic year 1970/71. • Mr. Ho Kam-fai, Head of the Department of Social Work, United College, was appointed by His Excellency the Governor to be a Member of th e Advisory Committee on Social Work Training for two years from 1st October, 1970. • Mr. Joachim Poon, Director of Physical Education, United College, resumed duty on 1st October after attending refresher courses in Physical Education at the University of California, Berkeley. • Miss Marguerite Giezentanner arrived in Hong Kong on 11th October and will spend the next three months as an honorary assistant in Chung Chi College Library, helping in the conversion to the new index system. Miss Giezentanner has recently retired after spending the past five years as a librarian of a college in Turkey. Miss Deborah Sham has been appointed Honorary Visiting Assistant Librarian, Chung Chi College, from 12th October, 1970 to 30th April, 1971. • Dr. Chang Chu-sheng, Temporary Lecturer in Physics, United College, assumed duty on 26th October. • Two students of Chung Chi College, Mr. Leung Hau-yeung and Miss Chan Hing-Sun, have been granted scholarships to further studies in Japan by the Japanese Government. They left for Japan on 8th October. Mr. Leung is studying Chinese literature in Kyoto University and Miss Chan is studying marketing process in Keio University. — 1 1 —
