To publish research reports: Research reports of Research Fellows and Visiting Research Fellows will be published in University journals or in monograph series. In principle, the monograph series will mainly be in Chinese with a table of contents and a summary (or an explanatory note) in English, however, if it is an English or Japanese report, a Chinese table of contents and a summary (or an explanatory note) will be attached. An "Annual Report of the Centre of East Asian Studies" will be published in due course as an official publication of the Centre. 7. To participate in international conferences: The research personnel shall be encouraged to participate actively in international conferences of Asian studies. 8. To exchange publications: The Centre shall participate in an exchange scheme of its publications with overseas universities, research institutes and other academic institutions. L I B A ' s Semi na rs To give its students a better understanding of Hong Kong's business environment and a broader outlook on society, and to prepare them for careers in Hong Kong, the Lingnan Institute of Business Administration is introducing two seminars: "Seminar in Law" and "Seminar in Business and Society". These two seminars are required credit course s for all students of the Institute. Seminar in Law The "Seminar in Law" consists of twelve weekly discussions on law and administration in Hong Kong and is sponsored by The Asia Foundation. The discussion leaders are among Hong Kong's most prominent members of the legal profession, thanks to the assistance of the Hong Kong Bar Association. They are: Prof. Kenneth R. Redden, the Hon. Oswald Cheung, Q.C., Mr. Henry Litton, Q.C., Mr. D. O'Reilly Mayne, Q.C., Prof. D. M. E. Evans, Mr. John Rear, Mr. Robert Wei, Mr. T. S. Lo, the Hon. Mr. Justice McMullin, Mr. John J. Swaine, the Hon. Mr. Justice Huggins and Mr. C. J. Millar. Three discussions were held in January 1971 on the following topics: "Introduction and Major Legal Systems of the World", "Financing the Export Trade: Law and Practice", and "Functions of a Barrister in the Modern World". Other topics will include: "The Theory of the Separation of Powers", "The Administration of the Criminal Law" and "The Basic Principles of Hong Kong's Labour Law". The coordinator of these discussions is Prof. Kenneth E. Redden, Regional Adviser in Law of The Asia Foundation. Seminar in Business and Society The purpose of the "Seminar in Business and Society" is to increase students' concern about the relationships between business and other areas of human activity in Hong Kong. The Seminar, beginning in February 1971, will start with a study of the characteristics of the Hong Kong economy and case studies of two very different business organizations. One is a large, integrated, successful Hong Kong textile and garment firm; the other is a small, struggling bakery in Shaukiwan. A number of prominent businessmen will also be invited to lead discussions on topics relating to management-labour relationships, the activities of international companies in Hong Kong, entrepreneurship in Hong Kong, career planning and the social responsibilities of businessmen in Hong Kong. Business leaders invited to speak at the Seminar are: Mr. Y. H. Chen. Mr. William Kung, Mr. Peter W. F. Chan, Mr. Paul Cheng, Mr. Glenn Prielipp, Mr. L i Chi-hung, Mr. Rogerio Lam, Mr. P. W. Hewitson, and Dr. the Hon. P. Y. Tang. T h e P r e - Emp l o yme n t Wo r k s h op The third Pre-Employment Workshop, organized by the Appointments Service of the University, was held on 7th and 8th January, 1971. The Workshop, attended by approximately 240 third- and fourth-year undergraduates and 90 community leaders, aimed at bringing students togethe r with their elders in an atmosphere conducive to counselling and discussions on all facets of graduate placement.
