The Freshest and the Brightest In 2007, CUHK continued to admit the very best candidates whose brilliance was at least equaled by students already enrolled at CUHK. Local Admission In 2007, CUHK admitted, through the Early Admissions Scheme for Secondary Six Students (EAS), a total of 182 students, the highest number among the three participating institutions. Forty-six of these students obtained 8As or above in the HKCEE, representing an increase of 70% from last year. Through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS), we made 2,388 admission offers of which 98% were made to Band A choice candidates. The total number of students admitted with Grade As in HKALE 2007 was 989, the highest among the nine JUPAS participating institutions. Out of the 10 students who obtained 5As in HKALE 2007, five put CUHK as their first choice and were offered admission. Overall, CUHK continued the trend in the past few years of being the university of choice of about half the 1,000 JUPAS applicants with the best average results. We also admitted many students who were outstanding in art, music, leadership and community services. Through the School Principal's Nomination Scheme, we admitted 76 students including all four winners in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2007. Through the Self- recommendation Scheme, 59 students were admitted, and 20 outstanding athletes were admitted through the CUHK Sports Scholarship Scheme. Mainland and Overseas Admission A total of 251 excellent mainland undergraduates from 25 provinces/municipalities were admitted through the National Unified Universities and Colleges Entrance Examination System. In the regions which provided ranking information, 30 students admitted by CUHK ranked among the top 10, and 171 among the top 500 in their respective regions. These included the top scorers in 15 provinces or municipalities. In our commitment to cultural diversity, the University also admitted 60 outstanding overseas students from Canada, Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Mauritius, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and the US. 31 The Freshest and the Brightest
