A New Map of Innovation and Education 13 W ith the globalization of its economy, China’s financial sector urgently needs top quality professionals. To help train talent for the country’s development, the University has collaborative programmes in business and supply chain management jointly with the Tsinghua University Graduate School at Shenzhen. The Faculty of Engineering of CUHK offers a part- time taught programme jointly with the Tsinghua University Graduate School at Shenzhen. The objective of the programme is to help local and multinational companies facing logistics and supply chain issues, to develop creative solutions that will improve logistics and supply chain efficiencies and reduce costs by grooming their logistics and supply chain executives. Students who complete the course will be conferred a Master of Science by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Prof. Yan Houmin, programme director and professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, said, ‘In addition to a global outlook and comprehensive knowledge in management, students of the joint pro - gramme will be equipped with profound professional expertise and practical skills. It will be a training base of talent in logistics and supply chain management in China.’ Over 200 c and i da t e s ha v e e n r o l l e d o n t h e programme since it was launched in 2003. CUHK–Shenzhen Collaborative Academic Programmes The Facult y of Busines s Adminis tration of CUHK began offering an MBA Programme in Finance jointly with the School of Economic and Management of the Tsinghua University Graduate School at Shenzhen since 2004. The programme caters for mainland executives from major financial institutions and corporations. Qualified applicants are interviewed jointly by the two universities before they are enrolled. The courses are taught by faculty from the CUHK and Tsinghua University on the Tsinghua University campus in Beijing. Upon completion of their studies, students will be granted an MBA degree issued by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The graduates of the programme have become senior executives of listed companies, multinationals or large enterprises. Some have even joined the core management team of financial institutions. Prof. He Jia, director of the programme and professor in the Department of Finance, CUHK, said, ‘The programme is very highly regarded by the industry because of its rigorous training and because it brings together theory and practice. That sets i t a p a r t f r om o t h e r p r og ramme s o f fe r ed by ot he r ins t itu t i ons on the mainland.’ The programme has produced 170 graduates since its inception in 2004.
