The Best and the Brightest   35 News in Brief New Council Members The Honourable Chan Hak-kan (1st left), the Honourable Cheung Yu-yan •• (2nd left), and the Honourable Wong Yuk-man (3rd left) were elected by the members of the Legislative Council, from among their own number, as members of the University Council for three years from 17 October 2008. New Provost The Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong announced the appointment of world-renowned computer scientist, Prof. Wah Wan-sang Benjamin, as Provost for a term of five years. Prof. Wah is expected to assume duty before the end of 2009. He is also appointed as Professor of Computer Science and Engineering. New Pro-Vice-Chancellor The Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong has appointed Prof. Henry N.C. Wong, Professor of Chemistry and Head of New Asia College, as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for two years from 1 February 2009. New Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Fung Tung, chairman of the Department of Geography and Resource Management, has been appointed as Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor on a concurrent basis from 1 January 2009 to 31 July 2011.
