Intellectual Cross-currents   49 Shenzhen IT Adviser on China’s Hi-Tech Development P rof. Liu Yingli, science and technology adviser to the mayor of Shenzhen, paid a visit to CUHK and delivered a talk titled ‘China’s Hi-Technology Development and Challenges: A Shenzhen Perspective’ on 4 August 2008. On the same occasion, he was conferred the title of honorary professor of the Faculty of Engineering by Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, CUHK Vice-Chancellor. About 200 mainland and local participants from the IT sector were in attendance. Lecture by Henan Official M r. Xu Guangchun, Secretary of the Henan Provincial Committee, hosted a public lecture at CUHK on ‘History of Henan Province—A Perspective on the Relationship between Culture and Economy’ on 19 February 2009. Mr. Xu gave an account of Henan’s history and its rapid development in the past few decades. He also analysed the relationship between the cultural and economic development of the province. The talk was attended by an audience of over 200, including senior government officials, politicians, entrepreneurs, scholars, and students.
