54 Chinese University Bulletin No. 1, 2009 Intellectual Cross-currents Sydney Chancellor Leads Delegation to CUHK C U H K we l c ome d a 3 5 - memb e r delegation from the University of Sydney on 20 October 2008, led by the Chancellor Her Excellency Prof. Marie Bashir and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Michael Spence. Scholars from the two universities met to deepen collaboration in the arts, law, medical sciences, and science through meetings, conferences and symposia. Notre Dame Delegation Visits CUHK T he Uni ver sit y we lcomed P rovos t Dr. Thomas Burish (1st right, front row) and other distinguished guest s from the University of Notre Dame on 22 October 2008. The visit marked the inauguration of the Lanson Exchange Fund, which provides a generous donation of HK$5 million to support exchange between CUHK and the University of Notre Dame. Besides undergraduate student mobility, the two universities will develop programmes for graduate and staff exchanges, promoting exchange of ideas and research between the two universities, countries and cultures. President of UC Berkeley Visits CUHK P rof. Robert Birgeneau, President of UC Berkeley, and Mrs. Brigeneau visited CUHK on 9 November 2008. A number of CUHK faculty members who graduated from the institution were present to share with Prof. Birgeneau how their days at Berkeley had shaped their academic lives. Prof. Birgeneau also met with representatives from the Faculties of Arts, Business Administration, Medicine and Science, and the new Colleges.
