Intellectual Cross-currents   53 Famous Climatologist Visits United College P rof. Qin Dahe, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the State Key Laboratory of Cryospheric Sciences, visited United College from 13 to 19 October 2008 as its Distinguished Visiting Scholar in 2008–09. Prof. Qin is an internationally renowned climatologist. Over the past three decades, he has been actively and productively engaged in cryospheric and global change studies. He is also a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Bureau, and vice president of the International Geographical Union. During his stay, Prof. Qin delivered three public lectures on the changing climate with relevance to China’s sustainability and socio-economic development, an academic seminar and a night talk. Prof. Ng Cheuk-yiu Serves as Chung Chi Visiting Fellow C hung Chi College has invited Prof. Ng Cheuk- yiu to serve as Siu Lien Ling Wong Visiting Fellow 2008–09. Prof. Ng is a chemistry graduate of Chung Chi College (1971) and currently Distinguished Professor of the Department of Chemistry, University of California, Davis. During his visit to the College from 22 February to 7 March 2009, he hosted public lectures and met with staff and students.
