It is also an important vehicle for inter-institutional cooperation in scientific research and technological development, and consultation for industries, government departments, and other organizations. It provides support, in the form of skilled personnel, high-power computer hardware and sophisticated software packages, to Hong Kong’s research scientists and techno-entrepreneurs alike, in their effort to advance biotechnological research, as an academic pursuit or commercial venture. Its home page is hyperlinked with universities, industries and communities worldwide. The centre also offers technical expertise in bioinformatics as well as molecular biology-oriented database development, which are essential to our research community. ! Its objectives are to promote and conduct research in sports medicine and sports science, to promote and conduct related educational programmes, to provide professional expertise and advisory support to the sporting community, and to facilitate liaison and interaction with sports medicine and sport science institutions in other parts of the world. The centre was designated as the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Sports Medicine and Health Promotion in 1996, with the Department of Community and Family Medicine and the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics joining this centre.
