It launched the first BBA, MAcc and MPhil/PhD programmes in accountancy in Hong Kong. The mission of the school is to advance learning and knowledge of accountancy through teaching and research, and to assist in the economic and social development of Hong Kong and the neighbouring region. The fundamental aim of the school is to achieve excellence and distinction in the pursuit of education, research and service, and to maintain close relationships with the community and industry. It is committed to providing relevant accounting education of international standard which encompasses a global view, and yet is also rooted in Chinese culture. The school is an accredited member of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy and a founding member of the Dragon League. Besides being fully accredited by the Hong Kong Society of Accountants, the school also achieved international accreditation by the AACSB-IAME in 1999. The objective is to provide students with fundamental knowledge in some rapidly- developing areas of contemporary management studies — operations management, business economics, management sciences, and management information systems. Students learn how to apply modern principles and methods of economics and management sciences to strategy formulation and to the analysis of planning, operation, and control problems related to systems management and business decision, so as to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the use of resources.
