Professional Examination to be held in Medical Year 2 at the discretion of the departments concerned. 5.3 Students who fail the examination in one or more subjects after two attempts will be required to discontinue his studies at the University unless decided otherwise by the panel of examiners. 5.4 Medical Year 2 students shall be assessed by the following: (a) the First Professional Examination in the subjects of Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology and Biochemistry; and (b) continuous assessment in any format throughout the Pre-clinical Programme as and if considered appropriate by the pre-clinical departments. 5.5 Students are required to pass each individual subject in the First Professional Examination. The pass mark is 50%. Students who fail in one subject with a mark of 40% or above shall be allowed a supplementary examination. Students who fail in one subject with a mark of below 40% will be required to repeat Medical Year 2, unless allowed a supplementary examination at the discretion of the panel of examiners. Students who fail in more than one subject or who are not allowed a supplementary examination will be required to repeat Medical Year 2. 5.6 The supplementary examination will be held in June of the same year. Students who fail the supplementary examination will be required to repeat Medical Year 2. 5.7 Medical Year 3 students shall be assessed by the following: (a) departmental assessment in the subjects of General Pathology, Junior Medical Clerkship and Junior Surgical Dressership; and (b) the Second Professional Examination in the subjects of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology, Microbiology and Chemical Pathology held at the end of Medical Year 3. 5.8 The pass mark for the above assessments is 50%. Students who fail either in Junior Medical Clerkship or Junior Surgical Dressership, or in the Second Professional Examination will be required to repeat Medical Year 3. Students who fail in the Second Professional Examination marginally shall be given an opportunity for re-assessment and those who fail in the re-assessment will be required to repeat Medical Year 3. 5.9 Medical Year 4 students shall be assessed by the following: (a) departmental assessment in the subjects of Community and Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Psychiatry; and (b) Part I of the Third Professional Examination encompassing the contents of the four departmental courses in Community and Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Psychiatry held at the end of Medical Year 4.
