108 Part 3 • Research Units and University Extensions Centre for University and School Partnership Tel.: 2948 3201 Fax.: 2603 7551 E-mail: b651792@mailserv.cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.fed.cuhk.edu.hk/cusp The Centre for University and School Partnership was established in 1998 to foster and co-ordinate partnership programmes between university and schools for the improvement of education quality in Hong Kong. Its objectives are to establish partnerships with schools on request; provide practical solutions for emerging educational issues and current educational demands in the local context; help partner schools to analyse their own situations and needs; organize consultancy teams to work with partner schools; design school-based or school- wide strategies for school improvement and quality teaching and learning; implement school improvement strategies with partner schools and evaluate the results; generate experiences and models in ‘technology transfer’ for future university-school partnership schemes; and strengthen the relationship between the University and schools in improving the overall quality of education in Hong Kong. Ongoing programmes of the centre include: Quality Early Childhood Education for All; University and School Partnership for Quality Education Project; Assessing Characteristics and Needs of Gifted Students: Perspectives from Students, Their Peers, Parents and Teachers; Early Childhood Environmental Education and Teachers Training; Accelerated Schools for Quality Education; Motivation and Model of Learning among Primary School Pupils in the Subjects of Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics; Partnership Development Project; Consultancy Study on Promotion of Parent Education; and Summer Programme for the Gifted. Cheng Suen Man Shook Centre for Hepatitis Tel.: 2648 4326 Fax.: 2648 4326 The centre was founded by a generous donation from Mr. George Cheng for the study of viral hepatitis. It consists of a molecular biology laboratory and a clinical trial centre located at the Sir Yue-kong Pao Centre for Cancer and the Li Ka Shing Clinic respectively. Activities of the centre include • conducting basic laboratory research on the pathogenesis of viral hepatitis; • conducting clinical trials on the treatment of viral hepatitis; • training of postgraduate students; and • educating patients and the general public about the disease.
