It covers a broad range of topics in electronics and is largely experimental in approach. Students are taught how to turn theories and concepts into working systems, circuits, devices, and new electrical materials. The department emphasizes high quality teaching and excellence in research, and all its degree programmes are accredited by the relevant professional bodies. Department of Information Engineering Tel.: 2609 8385 Fax.: 2603 5032 E-mail: dept@ie.cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.ie.cuhk.edu.hk The Department of Information Engineering is the first academic department in Hong Kong devoted entirely to the study of information engineering. It offers an undergraduate programme with equal emphasis on Internet and telecommunica- tions systems. Specifically, students will learn the fundamental theory of information; networking architecture and protocol; the technologies that enable efficient information storage, exchange, and transmission; and the processing of information in multimedia applications. Teachers are renowned researchers in the field, many with a strong industrial background. Its BEng in Information Engineering Programme has been accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management Tel.: 2609 8313 Fax.: 2603 5505 E-mail: dept@se.cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.se.cuhk.edu.hk Established in 1991, the department is the first of its kind in Hong Kong. Its undergraduate programme in systems engineering and engineering management, which leads to the BEng degree, has four streams of specialization: e-commerce systems, information systems, logistics and supply chain management, and financial engineering. Underlying all streams is the common theme of developing and applying engineering methodologies and information technologies to decision-making and problem solving in complex systems in business, industry, and the public sector. At the graduate level, the department offers programmes leading to the degrees of MSc, MPhil, and PhD in systems engineering and engineering management. The department is also actively engaged in research related to decision methodology and operations, e-commerce technologies, information systems, engineering management, and financial engineering.
