Department Profiles • Social Science 123 Department of Sociology Tel.: 2609 6604/6606 Fax.: 2603 5213 E-mail: sociology@cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/soc The department’s undergraduate programme provides students with sound training in theoretical and methodological knowledge in sociology. The objective is to cultivate sociological perspectives for analysing social issues critically and intelligently, and to provide a balanced education for further studies in the subject. The department offers over 60 courses including foundation courses such as introduction to sociology, China in sociological perspective, classical theory, contemporary theory, social statistics, and courses in communication and information technology skills as they apply to sociological studies. The major programme recently introduced three areas of specialization, namely social research, China studies, and sociology and liberal studies. And in addition to the existing minor programme in sociology, the department is offering a minor programme in social research.
