It aims at building up an electronic database of the entire corpus of traditional and excavated ancient Chinese texts and publishing them via different media. It is hoped that the centre could provide useful tools for scholars, academia and the public. Over the years the centre has been funded both by the Research Grants Council of the Hong Kong Government and the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange to conduct more than 10 grand-scale research projects. The research projects fall into two main categories: excavated Chinese texts and traditional Chinese texts research projects. Up till now, the centre has published the ICS Concordances to Works of Pre-Han and Han Concordance Series and the ICS Concordances to Works of Wei-Jin and the Northern and Southern Dynasties Concordance Series as well as publications on the study of excavated texts, namely, A New Compilation of Jiagu Characters and Collected Explanations of ‘Complete Collection of Yin-Zhou Bronze Epigraphy’ . In 2003, the centre introduced a book series entitled The Chant Series in response to the demand from academic institutions and libraries. Nine titles in this series have so far been published with other titles in the offing. Research Centre for Contemporary Chinese Culture Tel.: 2609 7382 Fax.: 2603 5202 E-mail: rcc@cuhk.edu.hk Founded in 1993, the centre’s research activities focus on the following areas: the modern transformation of Chinese culture and the comparative studies of Chinese and foreign thought. The centre has published a series of monographs and books and launched the Century China webpage. It also publishes the Twenty-First Century bimonthly and organizes seminars and public lectures. It has developed a database for the studies of modern Chinese intellectual history. With the help of the database, its researchers have been carrying out quantitative studies of the formation and transformation of modern Chinese thought and concepts and the interaction between concepts and significant historical events. It was renamed Research Centre for Translation in 1983. The centre promotes research in translation studies and publishes Chinese literature in English translation.
