360 Part 4 • Research Units and University Extensions Centre for Health Education and Health Promotion Tel.: 2693 3708 Fax.: 2694 0004 E-mail: hepu@cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/med/hep The Centre for Health Education and Health Promotion was established in August 2000 evolving from a unit which started series of ‘Healthy Schools’ programme supported by competitive grants from Quality Education Fund. The centre has been involved in territory-wide school health surveillance projects and needs assessment for school health and community health promotion supported by various grants. The centre has launched the Hong Kong Healthy Schools Award Scheme and Healthy Schools (Pre-school) Award Scheme building on the concept of health-promoting schools to encourage educational achievement, and better health and emotional well- being among pupils. It also aims to promote staff development, parental education, involvement of whole school community, and linkage with different stakeholders. In 2006, WHO Western Pacific Region Office commissioned the centre to develop and administer the Health Promoting School Registry for the Region to sustain and further promote the development of Health Promoting School in the Region. In 2002, a Pearl River Region Liaison Office of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education was set up by the centre to cultivate a regional network of health education and academic exchange. The centre has been invited to present the work on healthy setting in Australia, Britain, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Macau, major cities of mainland China, Scandinavia, Taiwan, USA, WHO Regional Office. The centre is key member of global programme for health promotion effectiveness and school health effectiveness, and has published widely in MEDLINE indexed journals. Centre for Housing Innovations Tel.: 2994 0495 Fax.: 2603 6515 E-mail: innovations@cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://chi.arch.cuhk.edu.hk The Centre for Housing Innovations was established in 1998 with support from the Committee of Science and Technology, Ministry of Construction of China, and the University’s Department of Architecture. Its research focuses on urban housing in China, aiming to achieve high quality, affordable urban housing for high-density development, and to improve the livability and efficiency of future urban housing in China through the integration of design and technology. The centre has organized the China Urban Housing Conference to develop a common and value-added platform for experts and scholars from the mainland and overseas to exchange research expertise and to advise the government in areas including urban planning, housing development, architectural design, energy conversation, human settlement, eco-house, science technology research, and sustainable development. The centre has enjoyed the strong support of the Committee of Science Technology for its previous events, as well as positive feedback from the mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas.
