408 Part 5 • Support Facilities, Services, and Staff Organizations • networking with other associations at CUHK — CUEGU works closely with student’s groups and alumni; • monitoring latest developments in the higher education sector, e.g. education and manpower policies; the Union is invited regularly by the Education Panel of the Legislative Council to give views on issues about university budget, staff remuneration, and higher education programme reform. The Union’s highest governing body is the annual general meeting. The executive committee, elected biannually during alternate annual general meeting, serves as the decision-making and executive body. CUEGU is an affiliate of the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (HKCTU) and serves as a member of its executive board from 2006–08. Through this connection, CUEGU has strong linkages and good working relationships with other trade unions in Hong Kong, particularly other unions of the higher education sector, and is also in touch with trade unions in the regional and international levels.
