CUHK Newsletter Do You Know Them? Mrs. Winnie Lai (Audio-visual Services Officer) She is in overall charge of the operation of the unit and is heavily involved in the design of audio-visual teaching programmes for various departments. Winnie had worked in the Education Technology Unit of the Hong Kong Polytechnic for six years before joining the University in 1985. All these years her work has centred around education technology. She thoroughly enjoys her job which requires a lot of creativity and she believes there is much room for development in this field. Her advice to potential users of the services at UIMS is ‘to book early', for resources are limited and early notice can ensure quality service to be delivered on time. Mr. Dominic Yung (Assistant Audio-visual Services Officer) Dominic cannot forget the sea trip to Tolo Harbour with scientists from the Marine Science Laboratory. They were on a special mission to collect samples of sea-water from the nearby waters and Dominic was responsible for video-recording the entire process. He was really shocked to see how polluted the water was and he swore never to go there swimming again. Similar stories are not lacking as Dominic's job is to help various departments produce video- programmes of a publicity and educational nature. He has the chance to see first hand how doctors operate or how scientists conduct experiments. Of all the works he has produced, he likes best a promo for the University 一 Better Tomorrow. Have you seen it yet? Mr. C.N. Lee (Technical Supervisor) C.N. majored in electronic engineering at college and had worked for local radio and TV stations before he joined the University in 1977. He was transferred to UIMS when it was first established in 1978 and has since been responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the University's audio-visual equipment. He is also the head of the UIMS technical support team. Miss Kammy Hsiao (Graphic Artist) If you need to prepare a banner for apublic lecture or the backdrop for an important ceremony, Kammy is the person to go to for advice. If you need to design a poster for a symposium or a brochure to introduce your unit, Kammy is the person to go to for ideas. Her more recent works include the Graduate School Brochure 1990-91, the Handbook for New Students 1989/ 90, and the poster and programme for the ASAIHL AIDS Seminar 1989. But the poster for the Uni- versity's25th anniversary concert produced back in 1988 is her favourite piece. 8
