CUHK Newsletter ANNOUNCEMENTS Appo i n tment of Dean of the Graduate School Prof. S. W. Tam has been reappointed dean of the Graduate School for a further term of one year from 1st September 1990. Election of Dean of Business Admi n i s t rat i on Prof. K. C. Mun has been re-elected dean of business administration for a further term of three years from 1st August 1990. Professorial Appo i n tment Professor of Paediatrics Prof. Stephen James Oppenheimer has been appointed as professor of paediatrics from 1st June 1990. Prof. Oppenheimer obtained his B A and B.M., Ch.B. from the University of Oxford in 1971 and was admitted as MRCP (UK) in 1975. He was conferred a D M in 1987 and an M A in 1988 , both from the University of Oxford. Prof. Oppenheimer has held various appointments both within and outside the U K since 1979 , acquiring extensive teaching and clinical experience in paediatrics. He taught at the Department of Tropical Paediatrics in the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine from 1979 to 1984 and had been on secondment to Papua New Guinea for some three years during the period. From 1984 to 1987 he was honorary fellow at the Liverpool School and at the same time taught at the Department of Paediatrics in the Oxford University. Before he joined this University, he was associate professor of the Department of Paediatrics, Hospital Uni-versiti Sains Malaysia, and honorary senior lecturer of the Department of Tropical Paediatrics, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Borned in 1947 in UK , Prof. Oppenheimer is married with two children. Professor of Physiology Prof. Patrick Yee Ding Wong has been appointed as professor of physiology from 1st June 1990. Prof. Wong graduated from the University of London in 1969 and obtained his Ph.D. at Cambridge University in 1973. After working for two years as research fellow at Jesus College of Cambridge University, he returned to Hong Kong and joined the University of Hong Kong as lecturer in physiology. He was promoted to senior lecturer in 1978 and reader in 1982. He also obtained his D.Sc. from the University of L o n d on in 1989. He left the University of Hong Kong in May 1990 to join The Chinese University as professor ofphysiology. Prof. Wo n g, aged 44, is married with three children. I n t erna t i onal Conference on M i g r a t i on Calls f or Papers The Centre for Advanced Studies of the National University of Singapore is organizing an international conference on migration to be held from 7th to 9th February 1991. The conference aims to bring together scholars and policy-makers from the Asia-Pacific area to analyse patterns of migration in the 1980s and to explore future trends. Staff members of the University are invited to submit papers on the following themes: overview of migration patterns in the Asia Pacific region; theories and concepts of migration; overview and evaluation of methodological issues in migration research; types and patterns of migration; migration policy; country reports; settlement and adaptation of immigrants. Abstracts of papers should be submitted by 30th September, and completed papers by 31st December 1990. No financial assistance w i ll be provided for paper writers.
