CUHK Newsletter P r o f. Chang Kwang-chih BA Ph.D., John E. Hudson Professor of Archaeology at Harvard University, USA An outstanding archaeologist and anthropologist, Prof. Chang specializes in settlement archaeology and Chinese archaeology and has written extensively on the subjects, systematically introducing to theWestern world the archaeological findings in China in the last few decades. His works and lectures on the early history of China have initiated many a Western student into the study of Chinese civilization. By actively promoting scholarly exchanges between the United States, Taiwan and mainland China, Prof. Chang has helped train many promising scholars in the field of Chinese archaeology and anthropology. Prof. Chang has been honorary adviser to the University's Institute of Chinese Studies since 1986. University News Life Peerage for Dame Lydia Dame Lydia Dunn, Senior Executive Councillor and member of the University Council since 1978, has been conferred a life peerage in the Queen's Birthday Honours List published last month. The Hon. Baroness Lydia Dunn is the first woman from Hong Kong to be given a peerage. Prof. P. C. Leung Awarded Liston Victoria Jubilee Prize Prof. Ping-chung Leung, chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, has recently been awarded the Liston Victoria Jubilee Prize in Clinical Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK in recognition of his outstanding contributions to microvascular surgery and free transfer of bone grafts. Prof. Leung is the second Asian recipient of the prize, the first being Prof. G. B. Ong, also from Hong Kong. Prof. Leung received the prize in May from Prof. G. D. Chisholm, president of the college, at the college's annual clinical and scientific meeting where he delivered a lecture on ‘The Use of Microvascular Technique in Bone and Joint Surgery'. Mrs. May Choi of UHS awarded BEM Mrs. May Choi, nursing sister at the University Health Service, has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in recognition of her contribution to the Hong Kong Auxiliary Medical Services. Mr s . Choi has served i n the Auxiliary Medical Services for 25 years and is now district commander for Sai Kung. Her work involves the supervision of all team members serving the Sai Kung district and the teaching of first aid and nursing courses. Mrs. Choi joined the University in 1968 and has been actively engaged in community service in her free time. She is a 30-year member of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and was awarded the prestigious medal of Serving Sister of the Order of St. John in 1978. 2
