No.20 July 91 CUHK Newsletter- ANNOUNCEMENTS Council Appointments Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ambrose Y. C. King has been reappointed pro-vice-chancellor of the University for a period of two years from 11th October 1991. Dean of the Graduate School Prof. S. W.Tam has been reappointed dean of the Graduate School for a period of one year from 1st September 1991. New Faculty Deans Dean of Faculty of Education Dr. Leslie N. K. Lo has been elected dean of the Faculty of Education for a term of three years from 1st August 1991. Dean of Faculty of Engineering Prof. Omar Wing has been appointed by the vice- chancellor to discharge the functions and duties of the dean of the Faculty of Engineering from 1st August 1991, until such a time when a dean of the faculty is elected, which will take place not later than 1st August 1992. Research Committee The following members of the University have been appointed or reappointed to be members of the Research Committee for a year from 1st August 1991: Chairman: Prof. S.W. Kuan Ex-officio Members: Registrar Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies Director of the Office of International Studies Programmes Director of the Chinese Language Centre One to two members to be co-opted by the committee All members other than the ex-officio members have been appointed from 19th June 1991 to 31st July 1993. Lady Shaw Building Indoor Carpark Parking Regulations The Security Unit has since 10th June 1991 taken over the management of the indoor carpark in the Lady Shaw Building. Only vehicles with valid University Staff Vehicle Registration Labels on their windscreens will be allowed to park inside the carpark. Overnight parking is forbidden. Vehicles that violate parking regulations and that are parked inside the carpark from 3.00 to 4.00 a.m. will be impounded. Release charges are set at HK$140 per car. An additional storage charge of $50 per day will be levied after the vehicle has been impounded for 24 hours. Staff members who are on official duties and need to park their vehicles overnight should make prior arrangments with the Security Unit (Tel: 6952666 or 6097999). Access Road to University Library Closed The access road to theUniversity library was closed on 20th June 1991 to facilitate engineering works for the library extension. It will not be reopened before the end of August. The section of the road to the south of the flower bed outside the library is still open and has been made two-way. The parking area nearby has also been temporarily reduced to allow more room for traffic. Meantime the mobile post office will conduct business at the northeastern comer of the large car park outside the John Fulton Centre. Local Education Allowances (LEA) Staff members who are entitled to claim LEA for their dependent children in 1991-92 are requested to complete an application form for each child and return it to thePersonnel Section with receipts of school fees as early as possible.
