Eu Tong Sen Memorial Exchange Programme in Chinese Studies The Committee of the Eu Tong Sen Memorial Exchange Programme in Chinese Studies invites applications from all academic staff of the University for financial support to teach and conduct collaborative research at the University of Hawaii. The programme has been made possible by the generous donation of the family of Mr. Eu Tong Sen. It is designed to further strengthen academic cooperation between The Chinese University and the University of Hawaii, Manoa (Centre for Chinese Studies). Successful candidates wi ll teach and conduct collaborative research at the University of Hawaii for a semester, or to do research for a period of one or two weeks. Housing allowance and airfare will be provided for short-term research visits while stipend will also be provided for the semester teaching and research. The deadline for application is 1st October 1993. Application forms and further information may be obtained from the Office of Academic Links, Room 811 , Tin Ka Ping Building (Ext. 8722). New Parking Regulation on Campus With effect from 1st October 1993, vehicles will not be allowed to park in the same parking space continuously for more than 72 hours (discounting Saturdays and public holidays). The rule does not however apply to vehicles parked in the residential areas of the campus. University Swimming Pool Opening Hours The University Swimming Pool is open seven days a week including public holidays. From 6th September to 30th November, the opening hours of the pool will be as follows: 1st session: 10.30 a.m. to 1.40 p.m. 2nd session: 2.30 p.m. to 6.15 p.m. The pool will however be reserved for the whole day for University and college swimming galas on 6th, 7th, 8th, 14th, 21st and 30th October. Science-Engineering Complex Management Committee Following the completion of new buildings on campus for use by the science and engineering departments, a Science-Engineering Complex Management Committee (SECMC) was set up on 1st August 1993. It will replace the former Science Centre Management Committee to manage the Science Centre, the Lady Shaw Building and the Ho Sin-hang Engineering Building, and to supervise personnel matters related to all technical and minor staff assigned to work in these buildings. All are welcome. Obituaries Mr. Chung Sing, workman II at Chung Chi College, passed away on 14th July 1993. Mr. Chung first joined the University in August 1985. Dr. Yuen Ting-cheuk, senior lecturer in Chinese language and literature, passed away on 20th August 1993. Dr. Yuen first joined the University in September 1965. 11
