CUHK Newsletter 4 No. 79 4th December 1995 宣 布 事 項 Announcements 第四十九屆頒授學位典禮當日交通安排 Traffic Arrangements on Congregation Day 第四十九屆頒授學位典禮在一九九五年十二月七日 (星期四）舉行，是日校園交通特安排如下： 中央道及大學道將改作單程逆時針方向行車’沿路 之停車場，包括范克廉樓、富爾敦樓、大學行政樓、 田家炳樓、大學圖書館及邵逸夫堂等停車場，皆保留 予嘉賓及公務車輛專用。 當日有需要使用上述停車場者，請及早聯絡保安組 主任（內線七九九八），俾預留停車位。 On 7th December 1995, the day of the 49th Congregation, traffic on Central Avenue and University Road will be converted to a one-way anti-clockwise flow. Car parks at the Benjamin Franklin Centre, John Fulton Centre, University Administration Building, Tin Ka Ping Building, University Library, and Sir Run Run Shaw Hall will be reserved for invited guests with special parking labels. Stadlin (醫）葉漢明(文） 各部負責人 會長：岑嘉評(理） 執行委員會主席：張雙慶(文） 秘書：孔憲煇(文） 司庫：孫南(商） 《教協通訊》主編：楊鍾基(文）、黃榮春(理） 執委：關海山(理）、鄺覺仕(商）、黃創儉(理） 同人如有任何問題，可向各位代表及執委反映。 教職員及配偶國粤語課程 Putonghua and Cantonese Courses for Staff and spouses 新雅中國語文硏習所由一九九六年一月十六日至四 月十八日於方樹泉樓再度爲本校教職員及其配偶舉辦 下列各項國、粤語課程，上課時間暫定星期二及四下 午五時至六時五十分。 (一）供外籍教職員及其配偶選修之初級國語課程。 (二）供外籍教職員及其配偶選修之初級粤語課程。 (三）供粤籍教職員及其配偶選修之初級國語課程。 (四）供非粤籍教職員及其配偶選修之初級粤語課 程。 以上各課程每班限額八人，少於四人不開班，按報 名先後取錄。學費全期五千二百八十港元，凡聘任期 不少於兩年之本校全職教職員及其配偶，如未獲其他 語言學習資助者，可獲大學津貼學費百分之四十。 有意就學者，請於一九九六年一月九日前與該硏習 所聯絡（內線六七二七）。 The New Asia Yale-in-China Chinese Language Centre will offer Putonghua and Cantonese courses to University staff and their spouses from 16th January till 18th April 1996. The following courses have been tentatively scheduled to take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 5.00 p.m. to 6.50 p.m. at the Fong Shu Chuen Building: (1) Beginner's course in Putonghua for foreigners. (2) Beginner's course in Cantonese for foreigners. (3) Beginner's course in Putonghua for non-Putonghua speakers of Chinese origin. (4) Beginner's course in Cantonese for non-Cantonese speakers of Chinese origin. The size of each class is limited to eight students and the minimum number of students to form a class is four. Enrolment will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Basic tuition fee for each course is HK$5,280. The University will subsidize 40 per cent of the tuition fee for all full-time academic and administration staff as well as their spouses who are expected to be with the University for at least two years and who are not receiving a language study subsidy from any other source. For enrolment, please contact the Chinese Language Centre at Ext. 6727 before 9th January 1996. 心肺復甦急救課程 First Aid Course — Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 大學保健處明年一月舉辦心肺復甦急救課程，課程 重點爲心肺復甦法之理論與實習，共分五節，由一九 九六年一月三日起，逢星期三下午二時三十分至四時 三十分，在大學保健中心硏討室講授，費用全免。 報名表格可親到大學保健中心索取，截止報名日期 爲十二月廿二日。查詢請電護士長蔡太（內線六四二 三）。 The University Health Service will offer a five-session first aid course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for interested students and staff. The course intends to explain the basic theory and practice of cardiopulmonary resuscitation as a life-saving measure in emergency and will run on five consecutive Wednesday afternoons (2.30-4.30 p.m.) from 3rd January 1996. Certificates of attendance will be issued on request upon completion of the course. No course fees will be charged. Application forms are available at the Health Centre. Please enrol before 22nd December 1995 and direct all enquiries to Ext. 6423. World-renowned Chemist Visits University Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn, 1987 Nobel Laureate and professor of chemistry from Collge de France and Universite Louis Pasteur de Strasbourg, will visit the University and deliver a public lecture entitled 'From Matter to Life: Chemistry?!' as Advanced Chemicals Limited Distinguished Visiting Professor. He will also speak at a research seminar on 'Supramolecular Chemistry: Concepts and Perspectives'. Prof. Lehn spent the major part of his academic career in Strasbourg where he obtained his Ph.D. under the direction of G. Ourisson in 1963. He has many accomplishments to his credit, including numerous awards from institutions in Europe and honorary doctoral degrees from the University of Jerusalem and the Universidad Autonoma in Madrid. He is a Foreign Associate of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and a member of many other prestigious professional organizations. For his pioneering work in the design and synthesis of cryptands he received the 1987 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Generally regarded as the leading chemist in France, Prof. Lehn has co-authored more than 300 papers. He gained worldwide recognition in 1967 when he described the synthesis of the first cryptand. Currently Prof. Lehn is conducting research on artificial photosynthesis in which photo-induced chemical processes are used to carry out energy-storing chemical reactions, such as the reduction of carbon dioxide and the production of hydrogen from water. Prof. Lehn's lecture, which will be preceded by a tea reception, will take place at 4.30 p.m. on 14th December in LT1 of the Sino Building.
