Lee, professor of community medicine, has been invited by the Director of Home Affairs to serve as a member of the Community Involvement Sub-committee of the 'Healthy Living into the 21st Century' campaign for two years from 1st December 1998. • Prof. Helen Chiu, associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry, has been elected president of the Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists for two years from December 1998. • Prof. C.S. Cockram, professor of medicine, undertook a short term consultancy for the World Health Organization, from 3rd to 25th November 1998, advising the government of the Solomon Islands on strategies for dealing with diabetes on the islands. • Prof. X u Yangsheng, associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, has been appointed as guest professor by Harbin Institute of Technology in November 1998. • Prof. Chan Wing Wah, professor in the Department of Music, conducted the Hong Kong Oratorio Society, Hong Kong Children's Choir, and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta for a Christmas concert on 19th December 1998 in the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Prof. Chan also conducted the China National Symphony Orchestra augmented by musicians from Hong Kong and Macau to perform his composition Morning Sun on 29th December 1998 in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
