The theme of the conference will be 'Language, Curriculum, and Assessment: Research, Practice, and Management'. The conference organizers welcome proposals for papers, workshops, colloquia, practicals, and poster sessions relevant to the aims and scope of ILEC. Presentations may be in English, Cantonese, or putonghua, and written papers, in English or Chinese. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 30th September 1999 and the deadline for registration is 15th November. For further information please contact the ILEC'99 secretariat at: Tel: (English section) 2609 6928 E-mail: (English section) pchan@cuhk.edu.hk Fax: 2603 6850 Webpage: http://www.fed.cuhk.edu.hk/~hkier/seminar/s991216/index.htm Mail: The Secretariat, I LEC '99, do the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Sha Tin, N.T., Hong Kong. 社會及校內服務網上資料庫 Web-based Database on Staff Community Service and Service to CUHK 為紀錄同人社會及校內服務資料,校方設立了網上資料庫,供同人隨時輸入及查 閱各自的服務資料。該資料庫系統於上月正式運作後,出版事務處及行政資料處理組接 到不少查詢,兹將較多同人關心的資料摘錄如下,以供參考: •進入資料庫網頁 ( https://piibnta.pub.cuhk.edu.hk/pub/cas/cas.htm) 後,同人必須以職員 號碼如 al234b 和校園電子郵件系統(俗稱 Mailserv) 密碼如 abl2c3 登入,其他電郵系 統如 Microsoft Outlook 的密碼是不能登入的。同人要是忘記了自己的校園電子郵件 系統密碼,可填妥出版事務處於八月中分發予各系主任/部門主管的介紹單張內附 之「重新設定密碼表格」,並寄回電算機服務處羅程美容女士(內線八八一六),密 碼將盡快經校內傳遞寄回同人。 • 所輸入的服務資料必須在一九九九年八月一日或之後生效,或在當日仍然有效, 否則將不被納入資料庫之內。 • 校內服務泛指各種以個人身分獲邀或獲選出任而非因大學職守必須出任之職務; 該等服務涵蓋與大學/書院/學院/學系/部門有關的教學、行政、輔導、文化、康樂 及聯誼等活動。 • 社會服務則指各種以個人身分出任或因大學職務而獲邀出任的公共或專業服務, 唯下述活動及服務不屬此列: 1 .因個人及其家屬利益關係而擔任之服務,例如出任所居住大廈的業主立案法團 主席,子女所就讀學校的家長/教師會會員,或因家屬為某醫院病人而擔任該 院病人支援協會會員等; 2 . 出席海外及本地學術會議及提交論文; 3 . 從事校外受薪專業服務; 4 . 舉行個人藝術作品展覽或示範; 5 . 已呈報大學之研究活動及相關著作;及 6 . 因學術成就或社會服務而獲得之獎項及榮譽。 • 出版事務處分發予同人的「教職員社會服務登記表」及「教職員校內服務登記表」, 純為方便不懂中文輸入法或英文打字的同人紀錄服 務資料,以情商友好代為輸入。出版事務處因職權 和人手所限,不會安排代為輸入資料,同人無須把 填妥之表格寄回該處。 The University has set up a database to systematically capture data on staff service to the community and to CUHK. It allows colleagues to input, amend, and view their own service data at any time via the Internet. Ever since it officially came into operation last month, the Publication Office and the Information Management Unit have receivedmany queries concerning the database. Answers to some of the major queries are summarized below: • Upon entering the database website ( https://pubnta.pub.cuhk.edu.hk/pub/cas/cas.htm) , log in using your staff ID number such as al234b, and the password of your campus- wide e-mail account (commonly known as 'mailserv') such as abl2c3. Note that you cannot log in using the password of other e-mail systems such as Microsoft Outlook. I f you have forgotten your campus-wide e-mail account password, you can complete the Password Reset Form, which was sent by the Publication Office as an attachment to information about the database to all heads of departments/units in August, and return it to Ms. Catherine Ching of the User Services Section of the Computer Services Centre (Ext. 8816). Your new password will be sent to you by internal mail. • All service data should be effective on or after 1st August 1999 to be accepted by the database. • Service to CUHK refers to service rendered, on a personal basis or by invitation, in relation to university/college/faculty/department/unit administration, teaching, counselling, and cultural, recreational and staff liaison activities. They should NOT include those rendered by virtue of your appointment at the University. • Community service refers to service rendered on a personal basis or by virtue of your appointment at the University to local and international professional bodies, public organizations, or voluntary agencies. The following categories should NOT however be included: 1. Responsibilities assumed in relation to personal interest or the interest of family members, e.g., as chairperson of the flat owners' association of the building of your residence, as member of the parents-teachers association of your children's school, or as member of the patient support group of a hospital of which your family member is patient; 2. Participation in overseas and local academic conferences and submission of papers; 3. Paid professional services or any outside practice already reported to the University; 4. Personal art exhibitions or displays; 5. Research activities and related publications already reported to the University; and 6. Honours and awards received as a result of academic achievement or social service. • If you do not know how to word process in Chinese or English, you can seek the assistance of friends, family, or colleagues. The Register of Staff Community Service and the Register of Service to CUHK are there simply to make your job easier. Please do not return the completed forms to the Publication Office as the data will not be entered on your behalf. 「身心康泰在中大」體適能測試 由體育部主辦的「身心康泰在中大」之體適能測試(一九九九至二零零零年度上學 期),將於本月廿九及三十日上午十一時半至下午二時半,在富爾敦樓一零三室舉行。 測試項目包括心肺功能、脂肪含量百分比、肌肉力量、肌肉耐力、柔軟度和壓力水平, 所採用的測試方法分別為踏台階測試、皮脂測試、手握力測試、仰臥捲腹測試、坐體前 伸測試和問卷調查,共需時二十至三十分鐘。曾參與上學年度測試者,可再參與以審視 本身的體能有否改進。歡迎所有中大員生即場參加,費用全免。 圖書館中秋節開放時間 Library Opening Hours During Mid-Autumn Festival 大學圖書館暨各分館於中秋節(九月廿四日,星期五)提前於下午五時閉館,並於翌 日公眾假期停止開放,九月廿六日回復正常開放時間。 The University Library and its branch libraries will close early at 5.00 p.m. on Friday, 24th September, for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
