Christiani Jeya Henry 將於本月廿六日下午五時半，在 蒙民偉樓七樓一號演講廳主持簡東浦暨英國皇家學 會客座教授公開講座，以英語主講「饑荒生物學對 廿一世紀的啟示」。歡迎出席。 Prof. Christiani Jeya Henry, professor of human nutrition at Oxford Brookes University in the UK , w i l l deliver a lecture entitled 'The Biology of Human Starvation: Lessons for the 21st Century' at 5.30 p.m. on 26th September 2000 in Lecture Theatre 1, seventh floor, Mong Man Wai Building. The lecture is a Royal Society Kan Tong Po Visiting Professorship Public Lecture. 善用網上資料庫處理個人服務資料 It's YOUR Database Use It Now to Record the Services You Render! 為紀錄同人的社會及校內服務資料，校方已於去年八月設立了網上資料庫，供 所有高級導師，副講師職級或以上的教師，以及甲類（或相類）服務條款的職員隨 時輸入及查閱各自的服務資料。 資料庫方便易用，可同時紀錄和顯示中英文資料。同人只需以職員號碼及校園 電子郵件系統密碼（註：此密碼有別於 MS Mail 密碼）登入資料庫，便可輸入、查 閱及整理自己的服務資料。教學人員更可於年終列印該學年輸入的資料，呈交學系 主管，作編纂學系周年紀錄（ Annual Departmental Records) 之用。 資料庫現時供教職員本人，所屬的學系系主任、學院/書院院長、部門主管， 以及校長查閱，日後並可能開放予校外人士查看。 各系主任、學院/書院院長和部門主管均於去年獲發給其學系/學院/書院的專 用登入密碼，如有新任系主任仍未知悉密碼，請向前任系主任查詢，或致電行政資 料處理組黃燕容女士（內線八九三一）或出版事務處陳偉珠女士（內線八五八六）， 要求重新設定密碼。 資料庫網址為 https://pubnta.pub.cuhk.edu.hk/pub/cas/cas.htm 。有關資料庫詳情及 介紹單張已於去年中分發各系主任/部門主管，同人請向各所屬學系/部門查詢，也 可翻閱第一百四十九期《中大通訊》。 https://pubnta.pub.cuhk.edu.hk/pub/cas/cas.htm This is the website of a database to capture data on staff service to the community and to The Chinese University. You have been given your own account to record and manage your data i f you are a teacher of assistant lecturer rank or above, or i f you are a Terms A staff member. Try log in to your account, the access to which is controlled by your staff ID number and your campus-wide e-mail password. (Important note: this password is NOT the same as your MS Ma i l password.) Call Ms Florence Wong of the Information Management Unit (Ext. 8895) or Ms Florence Chan of the Publication Office (Ext. 8586) i f you are in doubt. Try input some data, and you w i ll find the database extremely user-friendly. Press FAQ (i.e., frequently asked questions) i f you don't know how to proceed. More than 1,300 entries have been recorded since September 1999 but we are waiting for YOUR input. At this stage, the data you enter can only be viewed by yourself, your department chair/unit head/faculty dean/college head and the vice-chancellor. Supervisory accounts and associated passwords were alloted to these section heads last year to enable them to view data relevant to their section. I f you have newly been appointed department chair/section head, you should obtain the password f r om your predecessor. You can also contact Ms Florence Wong or Ms Florence Chan i f you want to reset the password. Run a printout of your service record from the database at the end of the academic year, and it can serve as part of your submission for the annual departmental records. When the database is eventually open to the public, more w i ll be able to browse the significant contributions you have been making to the community and to The Chinese University. Use it now i f you haven't used the system yet. 教職員及配偶普通話、粵語課程 Putonghua and Cantonese Courses for Staff and Spouses 新雅中國語文研習所由十月四日至十一月廿九日在方樹泉樓再度為本校教職員 及其配偶舉辦下列普通話、粵語課程，上課時間暫定為星期一、三、五下午五時至 六時五十分。 (一）供外籍教職員及其配偶選修之初級普通話課程。 (二）供外籍教職員及其配偶選修之初級粵語課程。 (三）供粵籍教職員及其配偶選修之初級普通話課程。 (四）供非粵籍教職員及其配偶選修之初級粵語 課程。 以上課程每班限額八人，按報名先後取錄，少 於四人不開班。學費全期六千三百二十港元，凡聘 任期不少於兩年之本校全職教職員及其配偶，倘未 獲任何語言修習資助者，可獲大學津貼學費四成。 有意就學者請於九月廿六日前與該研習所聯絡 (電話二六零九六七二七）。 The New Asia-Yale-in-China Chinese Language Centre w i ll again offer putonghua and Cantonese Courses to the University's staff and their spouses. From 4th October to 29th November 2000 the following courses have been tentatively scheduled every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5.00 p.m. to 6.50 p.m. at the Fong Shu Chuen Building: (1) Beginner's course in putonghua for foreigners. (2) Beginner's course in Cantonese for foreigners. (3) Beginner's course in putonghua for non-putonghua speakers of Chinese origin. (4) Beginner's course in Cantonese for non-Cantonese speakers of Chinese origin. The size of each class will be limited to eight students and the minimum number of students to form a class is four. Enrolment w i ll be on a first-come-first-served basis. Basic tuition fee for each course is HK$6,320. The University w i ll subsidize 40 per cent of the tuition fee for all full-time academic and administrative staff as well as their spouses who are expected to be with the University for at least two years, and who are not receiving a language study subsidy from any other source. For enrolment, please contact the Chinese Language Centre at 2609 6727 before 26th September 2000. 體適能測試 由體育部主辦之「身心康泰在中大」體適能測試（二零零零至二零零一年度上 學期），將於本月廿六及廿七日上午十一時半至下午二時半在富爾敦樓一零三室舉 行。測試項目及方法表列如下︰ 測試項目 測試方法 心肺功能 踏台階測試 脂肪含量百分比 皮脂測試 肌肉力量 手握力測試 肌肉耐力 仰臥捲腹測試 柔軟度 坐體前伸測試 壓力水平 問卷測試 整項測試需時約二十至三十分鐘。曾參與上年度測試者，今次再行參與便可審 視自己的體能有否進步。歡迎所有中大員生參加，毋須報名。 游泳池消息 University Swimming Pool Notice •大學游泳池於九月廿五至廿八日，以及十月十三日暫停開放，供書院及大學水 運會之用。 •游泳池淺水區由九月四日至十一月三日（星期六、假日及水運會日子除外）預留 作體育部「體育游泳班」之用。徵用時間由上午九時起，星期一及三至下午三 時，星期二及四至下午四時十分，而星期五則至上午十一時二十分。 •游泳池第一及第二水線於九月廿三及三十日，以及十月七及廿一日上午十時半 至中午十二時半供「大學泳隊及院隊訓練」之用。 • The University swimming pool w i ll be reserved for the whole day for University and college swimming galas from 25th to 28th September and on 13th October. • The shallow end of the swimming pool w i ll be reserved for P.E. swimming classes organized by the Physical Education Unit Monday through Friday (except public holidays and days for swimming galas) between 4th September and 3rd November, from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 9.00 to 11.20 a.m. on Fridays. • The first and second lanes of the pool w i l l be reserved for training by the University and college swimming teams from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on 23rd and 30th September, and 7th and 21st October. 圖書館公眾假期休館 Library Closure 大學圖書館暨各分館將於十月一、二（國慶日及國慶日翌日）及六日（重陽節） 休館。 The University Library and all branch libraries w i ll close on Sunday, 1 st October (National Day), Monday, 2nd October (Day following National Day), and Friday, 6th October 2000 (Chung Yeung Festival). 中大通訊 第一六九期 二零零零年九月十九日 4
