Service to the Community and International Organizations • Prof. Chung Yue Ping, professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Policy, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a Justice of the Peace from 1st July 2001. He has also been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a non-official member of the Education Commission for two years from 1st July 2001. • Prof. Christopher John Haines, professor in the De p a r t me nt o f Ob s t e t r i cs and Gynaecology, has been appointed by the Ch i ef Executive of the H K S AR as a member o f the Co u n c il on Human Reproductive Technology for three years from 11th April 2001. • P r o f. A r c h ie Lee, professor in the Department of Religion, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a member o f the Co u n c il on Human Reproductive Technology for three years from 11th April 2001. • Prof. Rance Lee, professor of sociology, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a member of the Council on Human Reproductive Technology for three years from 11th April 2001. • Prof. Alex Lui Chun Wan, professor in the Department of Architecture, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a member of the Panel of the Board of Review under the Inland Revenue Ordinance for three years from 1 st July 2001. • Prof. Thomas Chan Yan Keung, associate professor in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, has been appointed by the Ch i ef Executive of the HK S AR as a member of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board for two years from 4th July 2001. • Prof. Lee Shiu Hung, honorary professor of community medicine, has been appointed by the Secretary for Education and Ma n p o w er as the c h a i rman o f the Occupational Deafness Compensation Board for two years from 1st June 2001. • P r o f. Ke n n e th Young, professor o f physics, has been appointed by the Secretary for Health and Welfare as a member of the Radiological Protection Advisory Group for three years from 1st June 2001. • Prof. Lam K i n Che, professor in the Department of Geography and Resource Management, has been re-appointed by the Secretary for Security as an adjudicator of the Registration of Persons Tribunal for two years from 1 st June 2001. • Prof. Wong Tze Wai, professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, has been appointed by the Secretary for Education and Manpower as a member of the Occupational Deafness Medical Committee for two years from 1st June 2001. • Prof. Wing Yun Kwok, associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry, has been re-appointed by the Medical Council to the Panel of Assessors of the Medical Council for one year from 3rd June 2001. • Prof. Yeung Chung Kwong, professor in the Department of Surgery, has been re-appointed by the Medical Council to the Panel of Assessors of the Medical Council for one year from 3rd June 2001. • Mrs. Clara Lee, director of student affairs, has been re-appointed as the institutional representative of CUHK in the Joint Committee on Student Finance from 28th May 2001 to 30th April 2002. • Prof. And r ew Chan, professor in the Department of Marketing, has been invited to be honorary adviser to the Hong Kong Institute of Investors, a member of the World Federation of Investors Corporation. • Prof. Chan Wing Wah, professor in the Department of Music, conducted the Hong Kong Oratorio Society and Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra to perform Haydn's 'Creation' in the City Hall Concert Hall on 24th June 2001. Prof. Chan's music composition 'Dragon Spirit' also premiered in the Government House on 12th June 2001. • Dr. Joseph Lau, director of the Centre for C l i n i c al Trials and Ep i d em i o l o g i c al Research, has been re-appointed as a member of the Children and Youth Service Development Sub-committee of the Friends of Scout Association of Hong Kong for the year 2001-2. • Prof. Chan K a i M i n g , professor o f orthopaedics and traumatology, has been reappointed by the International Society of A r t h r o s c o p y, K n ee S u r g e ry and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) as an honorary treasurer for two years from May 2001. • Prof. Chang Shu Ting, emeritus professor of b i o l og y, has been made honorary professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, Un i ve r s i ty of Wollongong, Australia. • Prof. Zhang Junsen, professor in the Department of Economics, has been appointed as an editor of the Journal of Population Economics, the official journal of the European Society for Population Economics, for three years from 7th May 2001.
