宣 布 事 項 ANNOUNCEMENTS 新任/續任大學校董 Council Membership •葉元章先生獲聯合書院校董會依據香港中文大學規程(大學 規程） 1 1 第 1 (e ) 段、第 4 段及第 5 段規定推選，出任大學校 董，任期由二零零四年六月二十五日起至二零零七年三月 十五日止，以接替何添博士。 •關信基教授、李沛良教授及沈祖堯教授獲教務會依據大學 規程 11 第 1 (i) 段及第4段規定推選/再度推選，出任大學校 董，任期三年，由二零零四年八月一日起生效。 • Mr. Anthony Y.C. Yeh has been elected by the Board of Trustees of United College, in accordance with Statute 11.1(e), 11.4 and 11.5 of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance (the Ordinance), as Member of the Council for the unexpired period of membership of Dr. Ho Tim from 25th June 2004 to 15th March 2007. • In accordance with Statute 11.1(i) and 11.4 of the Ordinance, Prof. H.C. Kuan, Prof. Rance P.L. Lee, and Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung have been elected/re-elected by the Senate, as Members of the Council, each for a period of three years from 1st August 2004. 榮休講座教授 Emeritus Professors 經教務會推薦，並依據大學規程21規定，大學校董會通過頒授社會學榮休講座 教授銜予金耀基教授，由二零零四年七月一日起生效；以及翻譯學榮休講座教授銜 予金聖華教授，由二零零五年八月一日起生效。 •金耀基教授是知名的社會學家，其著作在學術界影響深遠，自一九七零年起在香 港中文大學服務凡三十四年，貢獻良多。 金教授一九七零年獲匹兹堡大學哲學博士學位，同年來 港出任新亞書院社會學講師。自此屢獲重任，迭居要職。一 九八三年出任社會學講座教授，七七至八五年出任新亞書院 院長，兼任社會學系系主任，八九年更獲委為大學副校長， 二零零二年出任大學校長。過去兩年，金教授更在中大遭逢 前所未遇的艱難時刻，帶領大學攀上新的高峰。 金教授的重要學術著作有《從傳統到現代》、《中國現代化 與知識份子》、《中國民主的困局與發展》、《大學理念》、《中 國社會與文化》及《中國政治與文化》等。 金教授一九九四年當選為台灣中央研究院院士並獲委為香港非官守太平紳 士，九八年獲香港特別行政區政府頒授銀紫荊星章’表彰其對社會學之特殊貢 獻。同年並獲香港科技大學頒授榮譽博士學位；二零零一年獲選為匹兹堡大學傑 出校友。 •金聖華教授一九六五年加入香港中文大學任職，九七年出 任翻譯學講座教授，至二零零五年退休時，將服務中大屆 四十載，是服務年資最長的教師之一。 金教授九三至九八年出任翻譯系系主任，帶領該系由 草創時期的副修系，發展成為獨當一面的主修系。一九九 七年獲授OBE (英帝國官佐)勳銜，表彰其對香港翻譯工作 的貢獻。 金教授曾出版專著二十種，論文及翻譯逾百篇，並為 《翻譯學報》創刊主編和《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》第六版審訂委員。金教授是英國 語言學會院士、香港翻譯學會榮譽會士、中國翻譯工作者協會理事、上海外國語 大學翻譯研究所特聘研究員、福建師範大學外國語學院客座教授和香港翻譯學會 會長。 金教授自九六年起，為大學校長就職禮、大學榮譽學位及榮譽院士頒授典禮 撰寫讚辭，迄今已為知名學者、社會賢達及傑出校友撰寫讚辭共三十六篇。她又 負責推動文學院舉辦的新紀元全球華文青年文學獎。 金教授另曾任中大文學院副院長、新亞書院校董等職，現任新亞書院文化委 員會主席及大學校董。 In accordance with Statute 21 of the Ordinance, Prof. Ambrose Y.C. King was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor of Sociology with retroactive effect from 1st July 2004; and Prof. Serena Jin, the title of Emeritus Professor of Translation with effect from 1st August 2005, upon their retirement from the University, as recommended by the Senate. • Prof. Ambrose Y.C. King is a sociologist of high standing and great renown. A distinguished scholar with important publications and a loyal member of the University for 34 years, he has influenced both academia and the University in significant ways. Prof. King joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong as lecturer in sociology in New Asia College in 1970. Since then he has been a highly valued member of the University, having been appointed to key positions and entrusted with important tasks. He became chair professor in 1983 and was head of New Asia College from 1977 to 1985, and concurrently chairman of the Department of Sociology. He was appointed pro-vice-chancellor in 1989. In 2002 he was made vice-chancellor of the University until his retirement in June 2004. Prof. King has been a visiting scholar at Cambridge University, the Center of International Studies at MIT, the University of Heidelberg, and the University of Wisconsin. Prof. King's research career has taken several directions. From Tradition to Modernity, the first book by a Chinese in which the modernization of China is systematically tackled in a sociological context, earned recognition for Prof. King early i n his career. He published China ’s Modernization and Intellectuals in the 1970s, Dilemma of Chinese Democratic Development a nd The Idea of the University in the 1980s, and The Salient Issues of Chinese Society and Culture and The Salient Issues of Chinese Politics and Culture in the 1990s. H is articles have also appeared in journals such as Asian Survey, British Journal of Sociology, The Journal of Asian Studies, and Daedalus. In 1994, Prof. King was elected Academician of Academia Sinica, Taiwan, and was appointed a Non-Official Justice of the Peace by the Hong Kong Government. In 1998, the HKSAR Government presented him with the Silver Bauhinia Star in recognition of his contribution to sociological studies. The same year he was conferred a Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. In 2001, he was elected an outstanding alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh. • Prof. Serena Jin joined The Chinese University in 1965. She was promoted to professor of translation in 1997. By her retirement next year, she will have served the University for 40 years. During her service, Prof. Jin has made great contributions both academically and professionally. She was chairman of the Department of Translation between 1993 and 1998. Prof. Jin has published 20 books and over a hundred academic articles and translations. She is the f o u n d i ng editor o f Journal of Translation Studies, and a reviewer o f the sixth edition o f the Oxford Advanced Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary. She is fellow of the Institute of Linguists (London), council member of the Translators' Association of China, invited researcher of the Research Institute of Shanghai Foreign Language University, and visiting professor of Fujian Normal University. She has served as adviser or member of the editorial committee of several respected academic journals. Prof. Jin is currently president of The Hong Kong Translation Society. In 1997, she received an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for her 'unique and invaluable contribution to the promotion of translation in Hong Kong'. During her long service at The Chinese University, she has devoted herself to a large number of administrative positions including sub-dean of the Faculty of Arts, and member of the Board of Trustees of New Asia College. She is at present chairman of the Committee of Cultural Life of New Asia College and member of the University Council. Prof. Jin has served as public orator for University Congregations for Installation of Vice-Chancellors and conferment of Honorary Degrees/Honorary Fellowships since 1996.
