宣布事項 ANNOUNCEMENTS 校園電腦網絡暫停服務 C a m p u s N e t w o r k a n d C e n t r a l i z ed C o m p u t e r Systems Shut D o w n 為進行「更換不斷電系統及翻新供電系統」工程，校園主幹 網絡及中央電腦系統將由十一月六日（星期六)下午三時起暫停 服務，十一月八日（星期一)上午八時回復正常。 工程進行期間，所有由中央電腦系統及校園主幹網絡直接 或間接支援的服務均會暫停運作。受影響的服務包括校園電郵系統 ( CW E M ) 、中大網頁 伺服器 (web s e r v e r )、 網上教學平台 (We bCT 及 CUFomm)、 所有行政系統、學術計算機系 統 、eServices、LDAP、DCE、 核證機關 (CA)、 網域名稱伺服器 (DNS) 等，而經由虛擬私 人網絡 ( VPN ) 連接宿舍網絡 ( Re sNe t )、 課室網絡 ( C l a s sNe t ) 及撥號連線 ( D i a l u p ) 的上網服 務亦會暫停。此外，由學系或部門各自運作之電郵及有關網站服務，均會受到影響。所 有寄至 xxxx@cuhk.edu.hk 或 xxxx@mailserv.cuhk.edu.hk 的 電郵，將會自動退回寄件者’或暫 時儲存於寄件者的郵件伺服器內。為確保在服務恢復正常後，所有 CWE M 用戶的信箱均 有足夠的儲存空間接收及處理電郵， CWE M 信箱的容量在十一月八至十五日期間會額外 增加 2 0MB。 資訊科技服務處已於十月八日為各部門的網絡系統負責人舉行簡介會，講解是次暫 停中央電腦系統及校園主幹網絡服務的詳情，以及對各部門電腦系統的影響。有關部門 系統的運作，可向相關部門的網絡系統負責人查詢。 服務暫停期間，資訊科技服務處會開設二十四小時電話諮詢熱線( 二六零九八八四 五），解答有_中央電腦系統及校園主幹網絡的查詢；而相關的工程進度及資訊，則會於 一個臨時設立的中大網頁h ttp://www.cuhk.edu.hk) 上公布。 在工程開展前，如有疑問，請致電徐耀明先生(二六零九八八四四)或丘智華女士(二 六零九八八二三)查詢；亦可透過電子服務台 ( https://helpdesk.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/group/ sysavail-help) 查詢。 是次暫停服務的常見問題載於 http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/sys_ava/ups-041106.html。 From the ITSC: Due to an urgent need, the Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC) has decided to replace a faulty Uninterruptible Power Supply and revamp the electrical system in Pi Ch'iu Building. The procedure w i ll cause the shut down of all centralized computer systems and campus network housed in the Central Computer Room of the ITSC starting at 3.00 p.m., Saturday, 6th November. Restoration of all systems and networks w i l l be completed by 8.00 a.m., Monday, 8th November. Services Affected During the shut down, services that are directly or indirectly provided by any centralized computer systems and campus network w i ll be unavailable. These include the campus-wide e-mail system (CWEM), the CUHK web server, the web-based teaching platform (WebCT and CUFomm), administrative systems, academic computing systems, e-Services, LDAP, DCE, CA, VPN, and DNS, and Internet access through ResNet, ClassNet and Dialup. Furthermore, IT services run by individual departments such as e-mail and web services will likely not be functional. As CWEM w i ll not be available during the outage, all incoming e-mails to xxxx@cuhk. edu.hk and xxxx@mailserv.cuhk.edu.hk w i ll be either bounced back to their senders or be temporarily stored by the senders' delivering mail servers. To ensure that all CWEM mailboxes have sufficient storage to receive mails when CWEM is back to normal, the disk quota of all CWEM accounts w i ll be temporarily increased by 20MB from 8th to 15th November. Enquiry and Support The L A N administrators of departments and units have been briefed on the details of the shut-down and the impact to their operations. Please consult them should you have queries specific to your department and unit. During the outage, the ITSC w i ll operate a round-the-clock hotline at 2609 8845 to handle enquiries about the centralized computer systems and the campus network. The latest information on the status of the works will be announced on a temporary CUHK homepage at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/. The card is especially designed for SCS staff and students and offers special benefits* catering to their spending needs. Cardholders can enjoy a perpetual annual fee waiver and the card can be used at over 1,300 Hang Seng merchants for shopping benefits. Additionally the card offers a Cash Dollars Redemption Scheme, by which cardholders can use Hang Seng Cash Dollars accumulated through card spending to redeem SCS course fees. Even more importantly, the card offers an interest free instalment plan for SCS courses with a minimum tuition fee of HK$2,000 and offers cardholders a six or 12-month repayment option. Part of the total spending of the card w i ll be donated to SCS for development.
