Attendance i s highly recommended . • Addition of New Investment Manager for Balanced Fund As Baring Asset Management (Asia ) Limited had consistently underperformed against the benchmark for a year until the third quarter of 2005, the trustees solicited new proposals and interviewed thre e ne w managers , togethe r wit h Baring , i n Januar y 2006 . Base d o n their submission s an d presentation, the trustees mad e the decisio n to ad d Allianz Globa l Investors Hon g Kong Limite d to shar e the Balanced Fund with Baring. This arrangemen t w i ll encourag e competitio n between the two managers , which i s expected to benefi t th e fund. I n fact , Baring's performanc e ha s since improve d an d has been consistently abov e the benchmark i n the last si x months . The total returns an d income distributio n o f the Balanced Fund w i ll b e based on the combined investmen t result s o f both Baring an d Allianz. For enquiries, please contact the Payroll and Superannuation Unit a t 2609 7236/7251 . 哈佛燕京學社進修資助計劃 Scholarships/Fellowships at the Harvard-Yenching Institute 哈佛燕京學社現接受本校人文學科及社會科學教員申請二零零七至零八年度進修資 助計劃。 ( 一)訪問學人資助計劃 此計劃資助教員前往哈佛大學進修或從事研究工作,為期十一個月。申請人於遞 交申請時必須末滿四十二歲。資助項目包括單人來回機票、生活津貼(以十一個月 為限)、醫療及學術研討會津貼。 ( 二)訪問研究員資助計劃 此計劃資助博士研究生前往哈佛大學從事研究工作,為期十個月。從事有關東亞 研究之申請人將獲優先考慮。申請者須參加托福考試 (TOEFL) 。資助項目包括交 通、訪問研究員津貼、生活津貼及學術研討會津貼。 ( 三)博士研究獎學金計劃 此計劃資助資歷較淺之教員前往哈佛大學或其他海外大學進修博士學位課程。申 請者須參加托福考試 (TOEFL) 及報考美國大學畢業生試 (GRE) ,並獲哈佛或其他 海外大學錄取為博士研究生(錄取通知書可於稍後呈交)。獎學金為期一學年,期 滿可申請延期。資助項目包括交通、學費、醫療及生活津貼。 申請人須把申請表格及有關文件,於二零零六年五月十三日或以前經有關學系系主 任及學院院長送交培訓事務經理周偉榮先生,俾轉呈教師審議委員會考慮。有關申請表 格可方令人事處網 頁http://perntc.per. cuhk.edu.hk/personnel/external.asp 下 載。 哈佛燕京學社之代表將於今秋來港接見經大學推薦之申請人。查詢可致電人事處(二 六零九八六零七/七八七六)。 Applications/nominations ar e now invite d fro m facult y member s i n the Humanities an d Social Sciences for the following three Harvard-Yenching Programmes tenable in 2007-08: 1. Visiting Scholars Programme This programme offers younger faculty members in the Humanities and Social Sciences the opportunit y t o undertake 1 1 months o f study and research at Harvard University . Applicants must be 42 years of age or younger at the date of application. The scholarshi p will cove r round-trip transportatio n by ai r fo r the scholar ; a stipend of US$2,940 pe r month fo r th e period o f residence i n Cambridge , Massachusett s (u p t o 1 1 months) ; fees for healt h insurance an d the use of the Harvard clinic; an d funding fo r one-tim e participation i n an academic conferenc e withi n the USA . 2. Visiting Fellows Programme This programm e provide s advance d Ph.D. candidate s (graduat e student s an d junior faculty members ) a n opportunity t o do dissertation research at Harvard University fo r three semesters . Preference i s given to junior facult y member s workin g i n East Asian Studies. TOEF L scor e is required for submissio n to the institute . The fellowshi p wil l cover transportation to an d from Cambridge , Massachusetts ; payment o f the Harvar d University Visiting Fellows fee; a stipend adequate for a single scholar; and funding fo r one-time participation in an academic conferenc e within the USA . 3. Doctoral Scholarship Programme This programme allows junior faculty members to study abroad for a Ph.D. in the Humanities and Social Sciences at one of the major universities in the United States and other countries. Applications fo r the institute scholarships are separate from applications for admission to graduate programmes. TOEFL scor e and GRE report are required for submission to the institute. Scholarships are given for a period of one academic year and are renewable for up to three and half years. The scholarship will cover transportation to and from Cambridge , Massachusetts, i f attending Harvard University (i n the case of another university , t o and from that university); tuition ; health insurance; and a living stipen d (stipend w i l l be adjuste d accordin g t o th e loca l cos t o f livin g an d other source s o f support .
