Walking helps to burn fat, strengthen bones and tone muscles. Walking also reduces the burden on buses, keeps the air fresh and enables campus members to enjoy the natural scenery. To promote a walking culture, the Committee of Health Promotion and Protection is organizing a walking campaign on campus in collaboration with various departments and units. All students and staff will be invited to join the launch ceremony on 16 March (Friday) at 10.30 a.m. outside the University Railway Station. Souvenirs such as T-shirts, pedometers will be distributed to participants on that day. Water will also be provided to participants, and healthy snacks will be available at the destination. Registration can be done through perntc.per.cuhk.edu.hk/personnel/crsreg/crslist.asp on or before 5 March, or at the counter near the Benjamin Franklin Building at 12.00– 2.00 p.m. from 2 to 9 March. For enquiries, please call 2609 6428. 學務組易名 Renaming of Academic Affairs Section 大學行政事務委員會通過教務處學學務組易名為學務及素質組。 The Academic Affairs Section of the Office of Registry Services has been offically renamed the Academic and Quality Section (AQS) following approval by the University’s Administration Affairs Committee. 文物館展覽及研討會 Art Museum Exhibition and Conference 《合璧聯珠二：樂常在軒藏清代楹聯》 日期：三月十七日至五月十三日 地點：中國文化研究所文物館 開幕：三月十六日下午四時半，由協理副校長蘇基朗教授及賴恬昌先生主禮。 楹聯講究平仄對偶，與文學、金石學、文字學及書法藝術的關係非常密切，在有清一代，盛 極一時。無論文人、金石學家、文字學者、書畫家，達官顯宦以至帝王，均措手其中。審美 價值與社會功能集於一身，楹聯乃清代書法之縮影。今年為慶祝藝術系五十周年及中國文化 研究所四十周年，文物館特別精選展出樂常在軒藏的一百五十對楹聯，並出版圖文並茂的展 覽圖錄，以饗書法藝術愛好者。 《書海觀瀾二：楹聯．帖學．書藝國際研討會》 日期：三月十六及十七日 地點：香港藝術館演講廳 開幕：三月十六日上午九時半，由中國文化研究所所長及藝術系系主任蘇芳淑教授主持。 邀請約二十位海外、內地及本地學者，探討對聯與書法、對聯研究、帖學與碑學、帖學與書 法、帖學理論等問題。 Double Beauty II: Qing Dynasty Couplets from the Lechangzai Xuan Collection Venue: Art Museum, Institute of Chinese Studies Date: 17 March – 13 May 2007 Opening: 4.30 p.m., 16 March (hosted by Prof. Billy So, APVC, and Mr. T.C. Lai) The Chinese couplet is a unique literary form that demonstrates the extensive use of parallelism in the classic tradition. A couplet reflects the writer’s knowledge of epigraphic studies and Chinese philology as well as the artistry of his calligraphy. Couplets became an increasingly popular art form in the Qing dynasty. Calligraphers, scholars, officials and even emperors wrote couplets not simply as an art form but also to demonstrate their competence in large characters. Bearing at the same time aesthetic value and social function, these Qing dynasty couplets represent the calligraphy of the period. The exhibition features a selection of 150 couplets from the renowned Lechangzai Xuan Collection. A fully illustrated bilingual catalogue will accompany the show. International Conference on Couplets, Tie-rubbings and Chinese Calligraphy Venue: Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Museum of Art Date: 16 – 17 March 2007 Opening: 9.30 a.m., 16 March (hosted by Prof. Jenny F.S. So, Director, Institute of Chinese Studies) Around 20 scholars, overseas, mainland and local, will present papers on their specialist subjects. The conference will be conducted in putonghua. 訃告 Obituary 決策科學與企業經濟學系研究助理溫啟康先生於二零零七年二月八日辭世。溫先生於二零零 五年二月加入本校服務。 Mr. Wan Kai Hong, Research Assistant at the Department of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics, passed away on 8 February 2007. Mr. Wan joined the University in February 2005. 更正 Corrigendum 《通訊錄2007》「校內服務及設施」內之「學能提升研究中心」應屬於「教學輔助單位」， 特此更正並致歉。 In the ‘Support Facilities and Services’ section of the Contact Directory 2007 , the ‘Centre for Learning Enhancement and Research (CLEAR)’ should be placed under ‘Ancillary Academic Units’.
