Social Work Mentorship Scheme

previouspausenext

The Social Work Alumni Association kicked off the Mentorship Scheme 2012–14 on 10 November. In attendance at the ceremony were Mr. Barry Wong, president of the Alumni Association; Prof. Joyce Ma, chairperson, Department of Social Work; Prof. Ngai Sek-yum Steven, head of Graduate Division; and mentors and mentees of the scheme.

The Social Work Alumni Association organizes the Mentorship Scheme for the undergraduate and postgraduate students every year. Under the scheme, students participate as mentees, while alumni with at least three years of working experience in the field of social work or related service experience serve as mentors. They are divided into groups of two to five, with one mentor and one to four mentees, and matched according to their common interest areas of social work service. This scheme serves not only as a good opportunity for students to learn from mentors, but also a platform for alumni to serve for the department which can ultimately enhance their sense of belonging. This year, there are a total of 80 postgraduate students and 41 undergraduate students participating as mentees for the Mentorship Scheme 2012–14. Sixty-six mentors from various fields of social work service are recruited.
