Conference on Mass Media in Literary History


The conference on ‘Mass Media in Literary History’, organized by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of CUHK and moderated by Prof. Chen Pingyuan, was held on 13 June.

In attendance were Prof. David Der-wei Wang, professor of Chinese in Harvard University, and Prof. Xia Xiaohong from Peking University and also scholars from local universities. The Xiaohong topic of the conference was methodologies and issues on mass media and Chinese literary history. A total of 17 papers were presented. They included ‘Literary Publishers and Literary Geography in the 30’s’ by Prof. Wang and ‘The Contributions of Printed Advertisements to Literary History’ by Prof. Xia which studied the role of the mass media from late Qing to Republican China.
