Fabricating a Green Future

In the recently held Green Building Award 2019, hosted jointly by the Hong Kong Green Building Council and the Professional Green Building Council, CUHK fetched the Green Building Leadership Pioneer Award in the category of government and non-governmental organizations, cum two Grand Awards, one Special Citation on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and four Finalists with its building projects. Winning Grand Award and Special Citation, the post-earthquake reconstruction demonstration project of Guangming Village masterminded by the One University One Village team under Prof. Edward Ng, Yao Ling Sun Professor of Architecture, improved the lives of residents and helped withstand extreme weather through enhancing seismic performance of the traditional rammed earth construction method. Standing to be the first comprehensive assessment of urban ventilation, the Urban Ventilation Assessment and Wind Corridor Plan for Chinese Cites research project, undertaken by the University of Hong Kong and CUHK, took another Grand Award, with its survey of wind dynamics enabling better building disposition and urban morphology control.
